Catholic Miscellany.
THE United Stales Catholic Miscel
lany, published in Charleston, &•
C. has bceu discontinued for want of
sufficient support As a considerable
number of subscribers has lately ieen
obtained and more expected, it will re
appear in May next, Should this not be
the case, the proportion due to those who
subscribed will be returned.
The topics which it will embrace are,
1. The simple explanation and temper
ate maintenance of the doctrines of the
Roman Catholic Church ; in exhibiting
which, its conductors are led to hope,
that many sensible persons will be aston
ished at finding they have imputed to Ca
tholics doctrines which the Catholic
Church has formally condemned ; and
imagined they were contradicting Catho
lics, when they held Catholic doctrine
themselves.
11. The examination of history for the
purpose of investigating the truth ol ma
ny assertions which have been, perhaps,
100 lightly hazarded, and which have ob
tained 100 ready and too general cre
dence ; and which have excited unfound
ed prejudices in the minds of many well
disposed individuals.
111. 'The correct statement of occur
rences regarding the Catholic religion :
for the purpose of better discharging
which duty, communications and peri
odical publications from Rome, Paris
London, Dublin, Canada, South America,
the various parts of the United States,
and other portions of the world will be
obtained, and arc solicited.
IV. Memoirs and anecdotes of the
several eminent persons who have distin
guished themselves in the Church, or
against it, in ancient and modern limes.
V. A summary of political events and
domestic occurrences.
VI. Occasional reviews of religious
publications.
IF Advertisements will be received
at the usual rates.
The Miscellany will be published in
the city of Charleston, S - C. weekly, on
a fine sheet of paper, quarto size—con
tabling eight pages of throe columns each;
so that the numbers may he bound at the

The diseases of the Teeth and Gums \
are chiefly owing to our own neglect - \
the parts of the aliments which lodge
about them after mastication, grow!**
acrid and corrosive, the gums are there”
by first affected, as being the most tender
parts, and after these corrections are
produced, commonly called the Tartar
of the Teeth, which, destroying both
their texture and whiteness, n.tonly de
prives the month of its principal orna
menls, but, brings on violent toothache?
and renders the Gums livid and putrid’
. and offensive to ourselves and others.—
But though people in general may pre.
vent those inconveniences, by care and
attention at first, yet, if they are once
suffered to take place/ it is no longer in
the power of the sufferer toremove them,
this being properly the province of the
experienced Dentist, who has made the
maladies of the Teeth and Gums, with
their attendant evils, the principal
object and end of his st udies.
Mr. Florance , Dentist ;
By long practice, a close application
to business, and a thorough knowledge of
the structure of the Teeth and Gums,
has made all the operations in those
parts quite familiar to him, insomuch
that what some Dentists have judged im
practicable, he hath performed with
ease and safety.
He places Teeth, both real and arti
ficial, (making the latter with pure ena
mel) Irom a single one to an entire set,
so accurately, that they shall answer
every purpose of the natural. Thus the
greatest deficiencesare supplied with or
naments, which have the recommenda
tion of utility.
Those Teeth that have fallen out of
their sockets, which frequently happens,
though in a perfect sound state, he, by a
method peculiar to himself, replaces as
firm as ever, without the least pain or
uneasiness to the patient.
He clears the Teeth, if ever so disco
loured, of all their foulness and tartar,
without pain, and renders them white
and as fair as ever in half an hour.
Teeth and Stumps extracted in the
easiest manner, if ever so difficult.
He assists young Ladis and Gentlemen
in the first and second dentition, and re
moves the Milk Teeth at proper seasons,
lest they should incommode the regular
growth of the succeeding ones; ami if a
deformity of this kind has taken place,
through the want of a Dentist, Mr. Flor
ance undertakes to correct it, provided
the subject is not more than twenty years
old, and restore the Teeth to their natu
ral, regular and beautiful order.
N. B. A Tincture and Dentifrice
Paste, prepared by him only, which pre
serves the Teeth and changes them to a
beautiful white, cures the Gums of the
Scurvy, and makes the breath at all
times sweet and agreeable; and cures the
Tooth Ache immediately, with proper
directions how to use it.
