The Irishman is established, and will
be conducted, on libeial and independent
principles. It will strenuously advocate
the cause of Civil and Religious Liberty
throughout the world; and the editor pledg
es himself to use his utmost exertions to
repel the efforts tff those who are indirect
ly attempting to introduce such innova
(ions into our Constidon, its will eventually
pave the way to a union of Church and
State in this, his native land—an event
which-no trite lovei of his couniiy car cun
teniplale without shuddering at the proba
ble consequence.
The cause of Ireland and of Irishmen
will be fearlessly, yet dispassionately vin
dicated; and the foul aspersions which the
bigotted and sectarian presses of this coun
try unceasing endeavour to cast upon it,
will be fully related to the abilities of the
Editor. It is not our intention to express
any opinion on the subject of religion—
Unit will he left to the discussion ol those
who are belter qualified for the purpose.
A considerable portion of the paper will
lie devoted to the cultivation and encour
agement of native tnlen; and the gieater
pail ol its contents tv id consist of oiiuiinal
matter, —to insure which, the correspon
dence of some of the most talented indivi
duals of the South has been engaged, to I
attend to the various tl-paruncnls which
its gcneml plan will compuse.
Tins Irishman will be punted in the
folio form, on a fine sheet, about medium
size, with entirely new type, and will be
delivered to subsciibers in the city, everv
Saturday, at $2 J per annum, payable in
advance, or $3 if not paid within six months
from I lie time of subscribing, Per
