m Orsowa, Oct. 25.
It is reported that a Russian corps o(200
men, which was quietly cantoned at Via?,-
za confiding in the treaty, has been sur*
prised and surrounded by a horde of Turks,
brobably belonging to tlie corps of the Pa
cha of Scnitari. The Russians, whe were
too few in number to m ike any resistance,
proposed to capitulate, when the Turks ‘
fell upon them end them to a
man.
Cf.rf;*, Oct. I?
For some days past u report, which seems
Improbable, has been spread here, that by t
artier of the Sultan, Athens has been evac :
nated by the Turk? and given up to the
Greeks.
Const anti Norun, Oct. 10.—Nothing
remaikable has occurred here since the ra
tification of peace, and the Turkish Minis
try may occupy itself exclusively wllli de- ‘
vising means to pay its contributions c( '
war, and abridge as much as possible the (
length of time for the occupation of (lie for
tresses. It is not at all necessary that it
should lie seiz 'd with the warlike ardour 1
which lias so inopportunely taken posses
sion 0/ the Pacha of Scutari; and indeed the
tardy of tljat foolish satrap Imp given „
rise to new complaints from Russian Gen
oral. .
Muftapha Pacha is still encamped with
iiis Albanians between PJtilippopoli and
Adrianople, wh u rc he constantly interrupts
the communications of th.e Russian army,
iu spite of the reiterated and positive orders
of Sultan Mahmoud to retire, and respect
the peace which has been concluded. But
litis Pacha seems to desire to trample upon
sacredness of treaties, and to continue the
ivnr in the midst of peace.
Count Nuvischkin, Aiil-de-Camp ol ■
General Oi’-bitsch, arrived here a few days
ago. It is thought he is the bearer ol a
despatch from the General to the Govern
ment ®f the Forte, in which he complains
in a very energetic manner of tlie violation
of tha treaty, and requests the Porte to
reprimand ills vassal; in default of which
Oiebitsch hints that he will liitqselfbe ob
iigeJ to take measures of resistance against
JVlustapha Pacha.
Tins despatch, it is said, Has created a
great sensation in the Divan, and several
Tartars were i.imtedately expedited to the
camp Piiilippopoli, and their return is ex
peeled with much impatience,
ROBBERY Or ITIE MAIL.
Fur some time past the Postmaster of
this place has observed that the letters
mailed for Nashville at Hardman’s Post
Office in Williamson County, regularly nr.
lived here with tlh* seals broken. Last
week he despatched one of the deputies to
Hardman’s, with directions to deposite in
that Office a letter directed to this place
containing a five liollai note in good mo
ney, and a ci.nsidetable sum in spin ion.-
note's. The letter was according nv ihd,
and as was expected, arrived here broken
open and the contents gene. The IVt
master at Hardman’s, in consequence of
an accident happening to his lock, has
been compelled t>> entrust hi* packets t
the Mail Rider ns far as Nolensvil!e,(abou
six miles) where they were deposited in a
mail bag, under Felt and key, and in this
manner w.ts the packet conveyed which
contained the test letter. I lie Kider was
immediately apprehended —brought before
Judge M’N.iiry, and held to bail in the sum
of $5,000, for his appearance at Inn nex'
term of the Circuit Court of the U. States
liter lids district. We forbear any comment

It is fortunate for the fame of Ulysses
and Dtofned, that this distinguished indivh
dua did not live during the Trngan war,
for his penchant no doubt would have in
duced him to volunteer as an amateur to
steal the horses of Rhesus; and his unrival
