“Health—the posr man's riehks, The rich sum 1 !

THE primary object with (he conductors

disease To attain this, all classes and both

friendly, and with ao avoidance of inch pro.

aud careful observation, shall be placed before

most efficaciously to their bodily comfort and
mesial tranquility. To whatever profession
or calling they may belong, the readers of this
Journal will find prccep’s susceptible of ral

localities, clothing, sad the physical education

dation of which the pages ol the work will be
mainly filled.
RECOMMENDATIONS.
I hive read with much pleasure the first
eight numbers of a publication entitled Ike
Journal of Health. The manner ia which il
is conducted, the principles it inculcates, and
the style in which they are conveyed, in my
opinion entitles that work to pnblic confidence,
while it remains ia the bands of iti present
Editors.
DAVID HOBACK, M. D.
P rofuyor of the Institutes and Prariter of Mrdi
tint in Rutger's College, N. York.
January 14, 1630.
I have also rend the numbers already inoed
of the above mentioned publication, and anile
ia approving both of its object and execution.
JAMES MILNOR,
Rector of Si. George's Church, N. York.
January 16, 1830.
I cheerfully concur in opinion with the two
preceding gentlemen.
VALENTINE MOTT, M. D,
Professor of Surgery.
We are much pleased with th. design and
execution of Ih. Journal ol Health. The Ed
itors wisely abstain from the discussion of
technical uedieiae, which can never be pro
fr-ably entered into except by the faculty.—
But tie principles for the tegulaiion aud pre
servation of ileallh may be easily divested of
all terms of art, aad the Disciples of Hygeia
:i«ed repair to those of Apollo only when they
have violated their own precepts. We with
l.he Journal every success in the dispersion of
those principle, by which it has thus far been
characterized, which coincide in the maiu,
with the effort; and widies of every well-da.
posed citizea.

Kew York, January 15, 1830.
After an eiamiaatieu of the first six num

Judging from th. first nine number* of the

and cheerfully recommend it te the patron

ALEX. N. STEVENS, M. D.
Professor es Surgery in the College of Phy

I have read with much interest the first
nine numbers of the Journal of Health, aad
it gives me pleasure to say, that, iu my opin
ion, it possesses more merit, and is better cal
culaled to enlighten the public mind on tbs
subject of health, without the haxud of incut
eating error, than any popular work I have
soon oa the subject ol medicine.

In the spring ol 1819 I was aiheked With a

Ircquenlly troubled me and finally broke out
in large ulcers of a corroding nature A which
in time entirely destroyed the flesh from the soles
of my feet up to my knees and proinerd a stiff
ness, and contraction in the ancle bones. My
situation was truly miserable. I was confiuc d
to my room, aad bed for nearly site year*. I ,
employed the most eminent phyntiaos of ibis
country, expended large sums of nisney, but all
without the fligtitest Dencfd. In the spring ol
