FIIIE-PUOOF
HOUSE COVERING.
WE HAVE hereby appointed and em
lowci-ed iMr. I’HIJJU CRUMP, ofthe
PSCity of Augusta, Geo., to cover Houses
| with Tin Plate Sheeting or Zinc, on Mr.
Bichard S. Tildon’s Patent plan of Cov
' i-ring, which for it* decided advantages
overall other methods of Fire-Proof Co v
r ering, deserves public patronage. On
. this plan, the builder saves very consid
erably in his roof, i.i the strength of Tim
bers, and Framing; Shite requiring strong
timbers, well frumrd, in order to bear
their weight. In « Tin cover, there is
comparatively no weight, consequently,
half tlie strength oftimbers and framing
is all millk'iont.
This plan Is also particularly adapted
to old Houses. On those, nothing more
Is required, than to lake off the old shin
' glcs, knock do\vn the nails, and put bn
the Tin; the method of patting on the
Tin being so perfect, that whatever may
he the state of Sheeting, in reason, a
perfectly water, ns well as fire-proof roof
is readily secured, that will, according to
the best information on the subject, last
one hundred years. Another very de
cided advantage ofthis method oft jvcr
ing, is, it is not at alt subject to any kind
of damage whatever, for while it lays on
smooth and close, forming the hand
somest roof in use, it would require the
strength of a man, to pull one sheet from
its position. As to the use of Tin in
covering houses, it is well known, and
much used in many parts of the world,
and believed to ho preferable to any other,
except copper. It has however fallen into
disuse in some parts ofthe United Slates,
wholly on account ofthe manner of its be
ing put on; s<ix and Eight nails being
driven through every sheet, or in some
eases soldered, cither of which is certain
to give way, sooner or later. On the pre
sent plan, no nail is driven through the
Tin; the Tin being locked together, and
attached to the roof in such away, as to
render it impossible to change its position
or leak one drop. The public may place
tho most implicit confidence in the mode
of putting it on; and as to its durability, we
could produce the best of testimony, that
Houses are now covered with Tin, that
has been on for ninety-live years, and is
yet good. And ai the same time that it
has very decided advantages over every
other kind ofeovering except copper, it is
nevertheless tlie cheapest Fire-Proof cov
ering now in use.\Ve have left certificates
iu the hands of Mr. Philip Crump, of ns
respectable gentlemen as any in Virginia,
setting forth the advantages of the plan.
We have also empowered Mr. Crurtipto
dispose of Patent rights For covering, in
any part of Georgia or Alabama. He also
we
plicity and perfection of die plan, that any
sort ofworkman canpnton the Tin.
