[3 Dolls, per Ann.} vr 7 - ■ ■ ■ Head-Quarters Georgia , Louisville , B th April , 1 806. r P'HE Camrn.tnder in Chief, with deep J, regret, has to announce, the death of Major General JAMES JACKSON, who’ commanded the full division of militia, and ■ras one of the Senators, of this State, in rac Congrelsof the United States. This unfortunate intelligence was convey ed to him on the 7th instant, by a letter da ted, the rgch of last month, from the Gen eral's Colleague, the Hon. Abraham Bald win, in the following words:—“ The dif <« tredjng talk, which my, letters have so « Icnrr led you to exped, is at length cii forced upon me, of announcing to you the ‘‘death of my beloved and much refpeded u ColUague General Jackson. I have been tt with him nil night, and doled his eyes just “ at the dawning of the day. “ It is now more than twenty years fmee “we have been intimately affjetated in the “duties of public life. A part of the duty “ which I ieel to V.e left to me is, to dc “ dare, that in sterling integrity and honest “ devotion to the public good, I have never ” found his fupcrior." Death has bereaved the State of a General and a Statesman, who was no Ids valiant in the field, than emin(|st in the cabinet. Da ring our revolutionary war in the days of peril, he exerted his utinoft powers in de fence of his country’s rights, and performed ads of heroism—and in her councils berth at home and abroad, he advanced and fupportwi the intcreft of the State, with ilern integri ty, undaunted perfevcrance, perfpicnity of mind and flow of eloquence, co great, were his public virtues that, from an early part of his life, he held the ilrft and mod diftia guiiled appointments, both civil and milita ry, in the gift ot his State. To attest the loss Georgia lias fullained by the death of her beloved General and patri otic and able statesman, who yielded up his last breath from home, in the fervicc cf his country, and to manifefV the efiimaticn in which his worth and services are held hy a - grateful people, the Commander in Chief.
