Sept. Term 1806.
At Burke Superior Court .
IVe the Grand Inquejt far the body of the
County y da make the fallowing prefail
ments.
We present as a grievance the great incon.
vcnience attendant on the tranfa&ion of
business in the office cl the clerk for the
superior court of this County, inafrtruch as
the papers relative to said buftnefs, are kept
in a room of the court house in Waynelbd
rcugh, and the rcfidencc of said cleik is at
the diftancc of fixmiles from the said d epo,
fit—and it is an additional sass, on which
the above grievance is founded, that there (
are no eftablilhed hours of the day, or days
of the week, when an inhabitant of the
county, or other psrfon, having business of
importance to tranfaft at said office, can
raefonably hope to fuccccd by attending at
the said office. —We have also to ftatc that
the business properly appertaining to the
office of clerk of the superior court is, in a
great measure, if not wholly, tranfaded by
a Mr. Samuel Garlick, whole residence is
at least ten miles from Waynelborough,
whereby persons having affairs requiring
dispatch at said office, may be fuhjeCted to
great inconveniences and injury—wc there
fore recommend to his honor, such proceed
ings as to his judgment may appear to pro
mise rhe fpcedielt redress.
In conformity with »ur duty, we have
examined an account current, exhibited by
one of the justices of the interior court, who
ads as treasurer to that body, & we are hap.
py to fay that the account is highly fatisfac
tory—u states a balance of county funds
in the hands of the justices at this time (fay
one thousand and fix dollars, thirty one and
a quarter cents.)
VVc return our thanks to His honor Judge
Skrine, for the promptitude ot his attention
in the dispatch of public bnfmefs, and request
that the foregoing presentments may be
publilhcd in ore of the Gazettes ®f this Rate.
