BE it evaried by the Senate and House of
Reprejentatives of the United States of

persons, who, being indebted to thetUnited
States tor duties on merchandize have given
bond thertfor, with otpc, or more furetics,
payable to the colleftor for the dtftrift of \
Portsmouth, in theftate of New-Hamplhire,
or to the colleftor of the diftrift of Bcflon and )
Clterkftcn, and who have fuSored a loss of
prolperity by the late conflagration at Ports
mouth) (hall be and hereby are allowed to
take up, or have cancelled, all bonds here,
tofore given for duties as aforefaid, upon gi. r

BE it enabled by the Senate and House of

America, in Congrefi ajfembled, That the
President of the United States (hall be, and
is hereby authorifed and requeued, to cause
a survey to be taken of the coasts of the U.
nited States, in which shall be deiignated
the iflaads and Ihoals with the roads or pla
ces of anchorage, within twenty leagues of
of any part of the fhpres of the U. States; &
also the refpeftive coutfes and diflances be
tween the principal capes, or head lands, to
gether with such other matters as he may
deem proper for completing an accurate chart
ofevery pan of the coafls within the extent
aforefaid. '
Sec. 2, Aud be it further enabled. That
it (hall be lawful for the President of the U.
State?, to cause such examinations and obfer
vatiohs to he made, With refpeft to Sf. Gea
urge's bank, and any other batik orifhcal,
and thft soundings and cumhts beyond the
diflance aforefaid to thcGulph Stream, as iti
his opinion may be efpccially subservient to
the commercial imetefts of t|ic United States.
Sec. 3. And be it further tnaiied, That
the President cf the United States (hall be,
and he is hereby iuihotized and nquefted,
for any of the p'uipofcs aforefaid, to cause
properand intelligent persons tube employed,
