Robbery.
ON the 9th instant a man who calls him
felf PETER STOU l\ waa brought
to Augusta, who, after having been examin
ed by John D’Antignac efq. upon the affi
davit of William Olds, was cammitted to
the common jail of this city, (at having
stolen a«d carried away from Savannah, a
Canoe ard two negroes ; which negroes
are now in thl said jail-one named Jack,
and lays he belongs to Samuel Barnett of
Savannah, the other a negro wench, who
fays fee is the property of George i’Joncs
elq. of Savannah.
After the said Peter Stoi./ war committed,
information was given to the magiffrate that
the said Stum had concealed a trunk in
Sooth Carolina, which wa» lent for—after
examining the contents of the said trunk,
there were found four pair of very fine
linen Ihceti, fopha furniture with the pil
lows, bed curtains, window curtains, an
elegant mcifcilli quilt, one do. of an in
ferior quality, which rnurt have been Bolen
in the city of Savannah or in tha vicinity
«!’ fdd town—also was found in the pofeT
fi ,n of laid Stout two ploughs and feme
other tool*, .which the negroes fay were
ftiiicn by the said Stout from different plan
tations un the river, on thair way from
Savannah to Aagafta, The owners of the
fame, ate requested to prove their property,
whivh is in the poffcffion of John D'Aiitig
nac efq. at Augusta.

BEDFORD,
WILL continue the ensuing leafen at
the Woodlands, near Columbia,
and be permitted to go to a few mares on
ly, befidcs those of his owner, at FIFTY
DOLLARS each; the money to be paid
down. The mares will be allowed to run
on the best rye and oats pafturcs, and be re
gularly fed with grain, and curried every
day, tree of all expcnce, for eight weeks af
ter their arrival; (hould they continue lon
ger they will be febjeft to a moderate charge.
If any (hould be sent from the neighbor
hood, and not left to run on paffates and
incur the expcnce and trouble of feeding,
only forty dollars will be required.

BE it enaded by the Set,ate and Hovfe of

a fubfeription to the full amount of the old
fix per cent; deferred and three per cent:
flocks be, and the fame is hereby proposed ;
for which purpose books dial 1 be opened at
the treasury of th* United States, and by
the several cownufiioners of loans, on the
firft day cf July next, to continue open
until the fevemeemh day of March next
following, inclusively, the fourteen last
days of each quarter excepted, for such
parts of the above mentioned difcriptioris of
flock, as dial], on the day of fubfoiipticn,
fland on the bot ks of the treasury, and of i
the several conuniflioners of loans, respec
tively j w hich fubfeription shall be effefted
by a transfer to the United States, in th*

feriber, or fubferibers (hall be entitled to a
certificate, purporting that the United
States owe to the holders thereof, his, her,
or their afligns, a font to be exprefled there,
in, equal to fixty.five per centum of the
amount of principal of the flock thus fubferi.

the commissioners of the finking fund (hall
be, and they are hereby authotifed to ap
point an agent in London, and another in
Amflerdam, whose duty it (hall he to re*
ccive fubferiptions and transfers, and to
issue new certificates in the manner, and
at the times above mentioned, and as the
officers of the treafery department, or the
commiffioncrs of loans might do ; that is
to fay, the agent in London in favor of
such (lock-holders residing in the dominions
ofGrcit Britain in Europe, and the agent
in Amfleidam in favor of such fleck-holders
residing in any other part ol Euro}*, as may
refpetiivfcly become fubferibers; Provided
That the certificates issued by the said
agent, (hall bear interest only from the firft
day cf the quarter next succeeding that it*
which the fubfeription (hall have taken
place, and that in relation to fubferiptions
made in old fix per cent: or deferred ftoeks,
the Turns exprefled in such new certificates
(hall be equal to the amount of the principal
of the old fix pet cent : or deferred flocks,
thus fubferibed, which (hall remain un
redeemed after payment of the dividend
payable on such flock) on that day from
