■J Hancock Superior Coart, Feb. Term, 1808.
I Prc/cnt his honor Judge Tait.
I On the firft day of the present Term, im-
I jbedlately after the court was organized,
I the Foreman of the Grand Jury ptefented
I the court the following petition, to wit:
February the lsth, 1808.
Xothe Honorable Charles Tait , Judge of
the Superior Court Manx fitting for the
eounty of Hancock,
m - The grand jury for the county aforefaid,
taking into view, the embarrafling situation
\4 of onr country, from the effed which the
i| Embargo laid by the general Government,
l| has on Commerce, and the incalculable in.

nimouily recommend chat the court proceed.
& ings at the present Term be suspended until
i Lcgiflativc interference can be obtained.
Charles Abercrombie , Foreman.
The Court took time to confider the re
f quest of the Grand Jury and finally came to
k the conclusion, that as much distress would
f* ensue, if judgment were now rendered, on
account of the Embargo imposed by the
general Government, and the consequent fall
B of the price of the productions of the coun
try. But being conscious, that it is not
competent for the court to render all the '
B relief ncccffary—this being in the power of
I the legiflalure a lose, and the court being
desirous to tKCt the wishes of the Grand Ju-
B t yj, as far as in the regular exercise of its
E| judicial functions it can do—thinks proper
to adjourn over all further proceedings until
■ the 3d Monday in May next.
i The Court took up the proceedings of the
1 Grand Jury—and thereupon Ordered, That
1 « certified copy thereof be transmitted to
I the Executive of this state, and that the
I whole be published in the Farmer’s Gazette.
‘ The court then adjourned until the third
