TO THE PUBLIC/
, * obfervc on looking over the Chronicle
Hat Walter Taylor appears n lirtlc (hocked
on being interrogated relative to his being a
good man ; ftrangc indeed, very (Irange
that a good man (hould be so desirous of his
amiable qualities and difpufition laying even
dormant to the world—-tho* I presume no
douot hut the impartial public can readily
perceive his rcafons. It appears that Tay
lor has ventured to contradict the true cause
of the exigence of what is termed the year,
ling (lory and without adducing any thing
more than merely Mr. Tobier’s and Mr.
Boftick’s certificates, that they vvctc called
on to adjust the matter between the parties;
but if Taylor had told Mr, Hitcher that
he taken a fancy to his yearling with
out setting up a pretext of claim no doubt
hut from that even conuefeending disposition
ot Mr. Hatcher’s, he would have made
him a compliment of his yearling. But 1
presume Mr. Jackson’s affidavit will (how
how confoimahle Taylor is to the laws of
his country, his rclifli for (fakes and what
has given birth to* the yearling dory—he
obierves that I with to inforce with drong '
emphasis that the aft which gave birth to
the yearling dory was criminal. I will
only appeal to Mr. Jackson’s affidavit and
a(k lay lor whether beating a man fur his
property with a view of making an ad van.
cage by it is not an aft of a criminal nature
as the yearling was in the possession of Mr.
Jackson for Mr, Hatcher, and proven by
Mr. Brunfon the dock keeper, to be the
property of Mr. Hatcher—as to the cru
entaftanefc of a limilar nature that Mr.
Hairgrovcor Mr, Williams,can remind him
o , wilt plainly appear to the public from Mr
Hairgrove's affidavit that he the said Waller
Taylor had a hog killed that was not his
property and that he was fearful of his neigh
bours nuking a difeovery of the faft ; how
ever a cufcuffion relative to the appearance
of this aft lam informed is to take" place at
the next court that is held for rhe didrift of
Edgefield, and Taylor dill wishes to in
fbrwoirxtrc Tiunas of the p«Wic rh a r F>p
realy is a man of charafter and that myfclf
and orhers arc indeaVopring to injure it; a
difficult matter indeed. However it appears
that a certificate Will counteraft an affidavit
now of days in Caiolina, as he is Co fre
quently in the hibit of contradifting afida
virs with certificates and that they arc taken
when not in favor and likely to disclose his
viliany for malicious putpofes. Rut should
it appear to he the opinion of the Court that
1 he is guilty of the crime ailed god, he as
\ usual can have recourse to the (hide! of his
) charafter, horse whip, hickory or a club,
as he has a peculiar avcrfioii to every other
kind of weapons. It appears that in fomc
minds the love of sinister tranfaftions is para
mount to every other passion, and from the
annexted affidavits and certificates, Walter
‘ Taylor bears this damp genainie, and but
too frequently displays them—this lawless
gafoonade viper andfpiderof hell from every
indication of his mind, there cannot be a
doubt but that he would be the fitted inftru
menefor a tyrant that ever disgraced by a
residence the did lift or date .wherein he
i lives.
