FOR PUBLISHING BY SUBSCRIPTION,
THE LIFE OF
Maj. Gen. James Jackson
BY THOMAS U, P. CHARLTON.
A citizen of Savannah.
With confiderahle labor and difficulty I
have collected materials which will enable
me to complete, in a few weeks, the life of
major-general James Jackson,
The character of this late diftir.guifhed (
citizen, was always held in high eftima
tiun by the republican interefi: of the U.
Stares ; and even his enemies (if all enmity
is not now buried in the grave) mull ac
knowledge* that he was a brave soldier, an
incorruptible statesman and an honest man.
The memoirs I am preparing for publica
tion will be thus divided—*
i<l Period —Wili detail the revolutiona
ry fer vices of general Jackson, and, col
laterally, the ferviecs of many patriotic
Georgians, from 1776, to the evacuation of
Savannah, in 1782.
id Period —Will detail his political and
civil pursuits, from 1752 to 1806. This
diyilnn of the memoirs will contain a hifto
ry of the Yazoo Speculation in the
state ofGeorgiaJ from the commencement of
the fraud to its fubmfion, in 1796 ; and
will also embrace the proceedings of the house
of reprefentalives and the senate of the state
of Georgia, and of the house of representa
tives of the congrcfs of the U. States, in
the year 1791, on the celebrated eontefted
elcdion of general Anthony Wayne,
This wofk will be printed on an o3av<»
page, and will probably contain 350 or 400
pages.
The price to fubferibers, (as the expenses
of publication arc at present estimated) will
be two dollars fifty—one DOLLARof which
must be paid as the timeoffubferibing.
As soon as 1000 fubferibers (hall have
made this advance, the money and the man.
ofeript will be delivered to the publisher.
