Dexter, esq. both having been incorpora ted into one town by the last legislature} is situate inthe healthy, fertile, and thickly settled county, of the same name, of whioi» it is the seat of justice—intended to per petuate two distinguished martyrs* to the cause of the republic, directly opposite the eastern point of that highly cultivated extensive, and fertile ti'actiof land, known by (he name of the “ Riff Mend." It ad joins the fraction on which the town of Alabama stands, and bordering on the celebrated river of tliat name, to which it it is navigable at all seasons from the Gulf of Mexico, for steam hoats of a large class —distant about two hundred miles from Milledgcvillc; u similar distance from the sea ports of Mobile and Ulakely; about 55 above Caliawbn, the seat of governmentv and about 12 miles below the junction of the Coma and Tabtpooia. It is the poiit at which the Atlantic mails reach their first stopping place in the state, and from whence New* may be distributed through the country with great facilities.
