.L HR enemy has retreated after bom

It belongs to a great mind to do honor
to a magnanimous enemy. Wjih all ifi*. c «,i.

our enemy is an inverse prototype of tha.

Proposals,
For publishing-in ~tngHetcn«, East-Florida,
A Weekly Paper,
TO BS KUTITLED
The TloriAft Gaifctte.
It i> the glorious characteristic of the
age in which we live, that the Freat, not
the hefald, is always the attendant upon
every revolution, having for its object the
emancipation of mind or the happiness of
man. The Provinces of Florida having
now become a part of the territory ot the
United States, it is believed that the tide
of emigration will set rapidly towards
her shores increasing her wealth, and
tilling her ports with our enterprising and
industrious fellow citizens of the old
States, and offering a home and a refuge
to the exile and fugitive Dorn the oppres
sion of European thraldom. Favored bv
nature with a frhitful soil—abounding in
articles of luxury and commerce, and
blessed with a climate more congenial to
the constitution of tlie stranger and sojour
ner than the Southern slates, this section
of our Country must heedme great and
powerful, and in time rival its neighbors
in Agriculture, in Commerce and iu Arts.
With these impressions, and under the
belief that a well conducted Press is one
of the most powerful auxiliaries, not only
to morality and religion, but in promot
ing the welfare of any particular section
of country, the subscribers propose to
publish in the City of St. Augustine, a
News-paper, under the above title.
The Editors of the Gazette do not wish
to make promises, or to raise expecta
tions which may never be realized It is
. sufficient |to say that the politics of their
publication, shall be Amkhicas, and their
onduct in the management shall be in
strict accordance with the maxim—
•» Open to all portico by none."
| It will he the object of their industry
and labor to render the Gazette the vehi
cle of the latest intelligence, Political,
, Commercial and Literary, and no effort
, will be spared to render it a pleasing, ami
interesting and a valuable Publication.

, the public, that lie has removed
from his former stand, and opened 'he
House formerly occupied by Captain B.
Mims, and late b' J. D Green, Esq.
AT THE SIGN OF THE

This situation possesses the advantages of
being near to the Market, and a suffi

enjoyment ot quietude and retirement. It
is situated directly on Centre Street, at
the corner of Green Street —lias attach
ed to it a dry and extensive Wagon Yard;
also h ’arge and comfortable Stable, to
gother with other conveniences equal to
any in tlie City. The subscriber flatters
himself that with these accommodations,
ami a strict attention to business, lie will
continue to deserve the patronage of the
Public. He returns ids thanks for the
