If it were made in sufficient quantities and its utility fairly tested by experience, there is no doubt it would come into very general use as a substitute for flannel# The beneficial ex fects of cotton, worn next to the skin, on i the human body are well known, having been tested by fhets—and theie are rea i sons worthy of consideration to counte nance the tdea, that the modern use of clothing, fabricated from vegetable in stead of animal materials, has had a sen-’ sible influence on the increase of popu lation in those countries where they have been more generally substituted.
