From Mexico —We have seen a regula
file of Havana papers to the 21st instant
from which we collect, that the adjust
ment concluded between Gen. O’Donuju
the Vice-Roy lately arrived from Spain
and Itiirbidirtlie imperal leader, had beei
rejected by Gen. Novella, who had beci
called to the vice-rsgal power by the arm)
and inhabitants of the Mexican metropolis
In consequence of this, hostilities had re
commenced, and it was said that, in a bat
tie fought in the beginning of September,
the imperialists were defeated; with the
loss of 3000 men and 10 pieces of artillery.
Upon the whole, it would appear that a
dreadful civil war was prevailing in that
fair country, and that the exertions o)
O’Dqnoju, and other friends of humanity,
to put a stop to its dreadful ravages, had
been fruitless, and of no avail

A gentleman cF Baltimore has written
an Opera, and presented it to the Mana
gers Theatre for representation. The
plot and dialogue are represented as ex
tremely interesting. The, music is by
Mr. Clinton, a composer of eminence, who
has before delighted the public with his
production".
If we mistake not, this is the first purely
American Opera that has yet been writ
ten, and we hopb its success may be com
mensurate with its meiits.— Sav. Rep,
