I. Tlie principal design of the propos-
J ed publication will he, lo furnish the com
munity with a distinct view of the state and
progress of religion in different parts of
the United Slates and throughout the
, Christian world, and a register of tnc ex
ertions, which i.re making, for Hie spread
• f the gosple mil the general diffusion of
useful knowledge.
2 It will be the constant endeavour of
the Editor lo give the best information,
respecting the progress of religion among
all denomination* ; but to exclude every
thing of a sectarian or controversial dim
eter.
3. About twenty Religious Newspapers
and Magazines, published by different de
nominations in America and in Europe,
will be regularly recived by the Editor,
and the must interesting and useful intelli
gcnce, which they contain, will he select
ed and condensed, and \ üblislicd in the
Visitor, together with some original com
munications on practical religion, morali
ty, and education.
4- About-a dozen Literary and Political
Papers will'also be received by the Edi
tor, -md a concise .summary of the most
imp-nUnt inf.innution they contain will be
luiblished weekly on the 1 ist page of the
Visitor.
5 Each Number of the Visitor will con
tain four large quarto pages, neatly piiut
eel on good paper, and ill be delivered tw
Subsci'ben in Richmond and its vicinity,
on Saturday evening, and sent by Mail to
distant Subscribers
G The price of the Visitor will he Tw o
Dollars: annually, payable at the close of
the year, (in notes current where those
who receive the Paper, reside;) which
price may be discharged by the payment
of One Dollar and Seventy-five Cents at
any rime within four months after the first
of April, or by the payment of One Dollar
ami Fifty Cents in mlvanee .
7. As the Editor expects no profit from
the admission of common Advertisements,
which are the principal support of many
Newspapers, as none will be admitted ex
cept such as arc designed directly lo pro
mote the interests of learning and piety,
.is the design is to publish nothing except
what may be deemed of importance and in
terest to all classes of readers, and as the
Visitor is vo be afforded at a very low
p ice, especially if payment is made in ad
vo ,-e, it is hoped that, it will be the mums
-jf extending the most useful information to
poorfumdies gercrally as well .as to the rich.
8. It is also hoped lha; Yeung Men w ill
receive the Visitor as a~f»urce of rational
entertainment for some of their leisure
hours ; and it is confidently believed that
Fanaltt generally will lake a lively inter
est iu subscribing, and thus encouraging
the circulation of a Paper, w hich w ill un
fold to their view the present state ol the
Christian world, and will describe the pro
