Contrary to expectation, all the mails,
excepting those on the Athens, Pete.s
burgh, and MilledgeviUe * routes, came
through.—We refer our readers to thr
Meteorological Table for an account of
the quantity of rain which has fallen with
in the past week ; and will only observe,
it has been so immense as to make the town
quite insulated. Savannah river seems to
have all the fullness of spring-time within
it ; and look-s like an angry god in pursuit
of his stolen Naiad. The greatest height,
on Saturday, as we understand from Mr
3iia:p. was 2,5 feet above die ordinary le
vel ot a boaiable river ; being somewhat
lower than it was during the Yazoo
Fresh, and about 4- inch* s higher than the
flood in Christmas week
The Fresh overtook a private boat con
taining five or six hurdred hales of cotton,
and carried it against a point; tire beat
sunk, and a negro w *s drowned.
Congress will not adjourn before the
Bth, of may.
