It is oelieveY by the writer of this pa
per, that no such alteration ought to b.
made, that no pa sitive good can result to
compensate for th*e probable injury which
may proceed from it. He invites peisons
who think differently, to give their
opinions to the public', in order that truth,
by tbe collision of idee s, may be elicited
upon the subject.
It is certainty a matter of considerable
importance, and worthy the a’ttntion of all
having the ability and disposition, to en
ter into the field of aiguinent upon the oc
casion, especiaally as but a short time
since, the people did, by an overwhelming
majority, determine not to have a conven
tion for the purpose of revising the con
stitution ; —thereby manifesting tiieir con
lentment with it in its present form and
substance.

with which she had been some months af
flicted. This amiable young female when
warned of her dissolution by all the causes
that portend a termination of wor’dly suf
ferings, met the event with all (he calm
resignation of Christian piety, and with
the brightest hopesofChrisdan innocence.
She murmured not at the dispensation,
though she saw in perspective ail that
could smooth and gladden this probation
ary course, especially in the smile of that
One with whom she so lately interchanged
the bridal vow. lint now ; this gentleness,
this piety, this female loveliness, and this
late vo.v of perpetual fidelity, have been

Ihe growing importance of Athens,
where the flourishing University of the
State ;s located, and surrounded, as it is
by an intelligent and wealthy neighbor
hood, has induced a belief that no place
in the upper country piesented a mure in

opinion has fed to the presen proposals,
ami the subscriber flatters himself, that,
in the liberal patronage of an enlighten
. commum y, his undertaking will re
ceive an approving sanction. And while
h;s own exertion will be perscvcringly
employed to furnish a paper which shall
be useful to his supporters, he will ven
ture to hope that his columns may be di
versified by lire occasional communications
of such scientific and literary friends as
may be disposed, through this medium, to

To make his paper useful, will he the
proprietor’s principal atm ; and in the

vor to give the earliest Foreign and De
mesne intelligence, with such portions of
Congressional matter, when the National
Legislature are in session, as his limits
