The examination of their pupils took
place on the 28th of May The highest
anticipations of the Tmstees and citizens
wUo attended on the occasion were more
than realized. The promptness with
which the most difficult questions were
1 answered in English Grammar, Arithmetic,
Geography both Ancient and Modern,
' ithetoric, &c. evinced at once the industry
of the pupils and the fidelity of the In
slrnctrt sses.
The trustees of this Female Seminary,
at the commencement of the y ear, de
dared that it was not their intention to
puff the Institution into notice ; yet they
feel no hesitation in saying that they have
seldom witnessed an Examination in which
Girls of the same age did themselves or
their Instructresses more credit ami, after
having observed for six months the course
of instruction pursued here ami the cle
p gree of proficiency attal • d, we can con
scientiously recommend this Academy as
, worthy of the public patronage. The
iiealthfulness of this place and the advan
tage s which as a village it enjoys, it is
confidently hoped will offer sufficient in
-1 ducciiienis to parents to place their daugh
ters in this Seminary,
Young ladies from abroad tire required
to hoard with the Rector in his family, or
with some relative. With the exception
1 of Music, every branch of a solid and or
namental education may be here acquired.
At the close of the next vacation, it is in
tended to adopt in the Academy a more
regular and sysiema ic course of edi’.ca
lion than h generally pursued in similar
Institutions The vacations arc so arraiig
ed that the Rector is seldom on the cir
cuit during the term.
Ills professional ruties, therefore, in
terfere but little with his attention to the
government and supt rintendance of the
