AW ciEKLY Religious Work, lor the
t ovulation ot ecclesiastical intelli
gence, chiefly that of a missionary nature;
• estab ished with the especial view and in
the bumble hope, under the divine bless
ing, of calling the attention of the mem
bers of the church, to the important duty
of co-operating with the designs ol the
Domestic and foreign Missionary Society,
rc< cully instituted by the unanimous vole
of the General Convention; and to be
conducted under the direction of the fol
low mg gentlemen, members of that So

PROSPECTUS.
Deeply impressed with a -euse of the
of the duly enjoined in the first
part of their motto, and encouraged by
the prophetic vision of its fulfilment in the
latter, the Editors, in offering the above
work to their brethren of the ( hnrch, arc
actuated ny an ardent solicitude that it
may become instrumental to the excite
ment of a Missionary spirit, and of a prac
ti al sympathy in Ihoi.e mighty endeavour?
for the diffusion of gospel light, which so
pre-eminently disti guish the present age,
and with which, if we duly appreciate
our peculiar privileges and responsibility
as Churduiun, we cannot fail to co-ope
rate. WJth this view, they have thought
that ncrmcaus could ;o effectually con
duce to the desired end, as the circula
tion of well authenticated and interesting
accounts of the progress of missionary
J ,hours, and of the triumphs of Clirisli
aoily in heathen lands. It will therefore
Lo (heir chief business, at least for a con
siderable time to c ome, to extract such
accounts from the* various misskuiary
publications both at home and abroad;
ami to condense, in as attractive and
popular x form as they c an, the interest
ing intelligence they may furnish.
A i the present undertaking is designed
to be subservient to the promotion of the
views of thn Domestic and Foreign Mis
sionary Society ol the Church—the pro
ceedings of that Society; all its publica
tions; and whatever, in regard to it, it
if nay be thought expedient to make
known; will always have a prominent
place in the “ Rei ord which will thus,
it is hoped, prove an efficient auxiliary to
tfie Society.
Besides the coattails of a missionary
character; it wdp boa favourite object
with the editors, w* circulate ecclesiasti
cal intelligence of a domestic nature.—
Whatever of an interesting description
take place in the General or State Con
ventions, or ii any part of the Chun ii,
shall bn immediately signalized in our
pages. lor lliis purpose, (he Ibrm ofni.tr
work, that of a weekly publication—
while it will have a tendency to keep
nine an interest in the general design—is
particularly convenient.
Nor is it intended to tonfi m the work
to the preceding objects. Short essay*
of a practical nature; especially those
enforcing tbr doty or cUimtrnt lop; thn
benefits, of aiding the Missionary cause,
domestic or foreign, will always be gladly
welcomed, and are accordingly most re
fpectliilly invited.
With these views and objects, the
Editors commit their undertaking to the
great head of the Church, with the
prayer that he will favourably dispose
the hearts of the members of his mystical
body, to co-operate herein, and thus to
manifest their love and allegiance to him,
whose h essed will and peremptory com
mand it is, that his “gospel sho.ld bo<
preached to every creature.”
Terms of publication.
The Church Record will bo printed on
eight octavo pages, and wilt be published
dery Saturday. The first number will
appear on the JM day of this month.
I'he price will be ONE DOLLAR A
YEA H, payable in a Ivancy, and until this
condition shall have been complied with,
t\ie Record will uol be sent to any sub
scriber.
