answer, in anticipation, the question, do I think

Since the ml induction of the epidemic Cholera

{teih ips, the e is nut a peiiudical production in
the Lulled States which has not contained an

drawn and ligidly enforced; qu* iinlines have
been established mdiffe cut countries; coinniis
sioneis have boen o gamzed for regulating the
oygiinic laws of large cities; physicians have
gone voluntarily, m some instances, and in o

At ISieslaw it coininoncod abruil the tflh of
October, and there hud occurred 111) cases, (of
Whom 18 were fatal.) At Potsdam also, there
xvoicV’O cases, 13 deaths; and at Magdeburg,
At cases and 30 fatal of that number. Them am
other places where the cholera existed 01 exists,
as Miltnu, Elbing, Kalish, Ac. but not having
received positive information respecting the
number of cases, Ac. they aru necessarily omit
ted.
At Berlin, tin* ‘J3d of October, there had heen
1737 eases, of whom 1085 deaths, 108 reeoveied,
and 187 under treatment. Oh the h’ihh there
were 17 now cases, and un the 30lli, V7. At Vi
otuui, the Solh, tiiero wore 48 new cases—on
the V-’Olh, 43, and on the t»7lh, M, At llumhuig,
out of the 30‘i cases, Vf'.’O were men and B’l wo
men, of whom 133 died, 17 recovered, and Ihvf
remained under, treatment. On the 18th them
were 38 new cases; Uhh, 4o; ‘,'lHh, 00, and
21 si, 40.
The Asiatieo European Cholera Moibus ap
pears to follow the general laws of cj iiluinics
proceeds lioui Last to West, is most violent at
sis commencement, diminishes m line weather,
and increases with « contrary state of the at
niosphe'-e, is most fatal in miasmatic districts,
and in crowded and badly situated towns, and
men m the vvoiso pails ot these towns, docs not
ailed high and airy situations, aud is checked in
its progress though not destroyed by cold. Ac
cording to a limited observation, men, perhaps,
because they mo most exposed, are most liable
to it, and coinpaiativcly-very few children have
been its victims.
I am happy to slate that the celeb ated Hum
boll road a paper to the Academy of Sciences at
r.triH in Ootohor last, in which he says tho Cho
lera Morbus has ceased both at Si. Pbiorsburcli
and Mokouw . It was said to have disappeared at
oue tune at Danlzic, and then to have recoin
Rencod. At Posen H also ceased, on the 19;h
of October.
It may ho necessary to observe, that the above
dates, Ac. are de.ived from the daily publica
tions of the Continent, and ore liable to errors
and mistakes. In fact, from the gradual and m-
Hidious manner in whicii iJiecholera coinmtiiccs
ila being preceded by similar alfocliona and Iron!
common diseases borrowing o. pulling on some
of us clinructais, it is veiy dillicull to fix the ex
act date of its commencement in a place as well
ns to ascertain the number ofdeatla, Ac. Thus,
at Leeds, Newcastle and Sheffield, in England
was reported that (he cholera had commenced
those several cities on the 80th of October. Phy.
siciaus, however, decided Uial it Was not the A
malic cholera, but on the 2d of November, 7
days later, 5 persons out of C attacked, died of
the real Asiatic cholera moibus, at Sunderland
near Newcastle.
VV Uh regard to tho question, do I think the
Asiatic European epidemic cholera morbus
i . ar V T i f n America? 1 answer conditionally.
Ist. I think k will, inasmuch as other epide
mics have generally made the toui of the world.
«n. Uli ri* n ° f °e l °!r ! '> a * has beeu observed, the ’
general laws of all epidemics. 1
,an, ° have procad-1
$ m uro P e » Mist, or should ovst, ip c; i r {
lucities, then 1 any, 1 believe it will. I* or it
w now a well ascertained fuel, that at Moscow,
Wa saw, Berlin, Vienna, Hambuig, dec, the
choloi n whs jircci'ded by what is
the Cholerine. whifh is a milder affection, bulol
the same nature of the (-’holda Morbus; and, in
tuniH of these places, this was even preceded by
the influenza, particularly at Berlin, aal remark
ed last spring on my way to Warsaw. The in
fluenza, (La gripe) has existed at Paris; the
1 Cholerine has succeeded, and 1 am inclined to
Itlurt tlie Cholera will follow next in that city.
In the same way 1 think it probable the Cholo
-1 rine existed at Leeds, Newcastle, &c. and only
preceded the Choleia Morbus of .Sunderland, or
* the Cholerine may still only exist in this latter
place.
In conclusion, I willremaik in the spirit of my
1 former article, that the disease is, in my opinion,
communicated by the air, and that it is in no
way contageous, i. e. communicated Irom per
-1 son to person.
