than principle, worships an idol. Such
a devotion they can never join. “Mea
sures and not men” is (heir motto.
They support the Constitution of the
IT. S., and declare with their venerable
Chief .Magistrate that “The Federal Un
ion niustbe preserved.”
They support (be sovereignty of the
States in all those powers not granted to
(he Federal Government; and acknowl
edge the sovereignty ol'the Federal Gov
ernment in all (hose powers granted by
the Constitution, and not reserved to the
•stales.
