a memorial and certain resolutions adopted at a
meeting of citizens of Madison county, Alaba
ma, complaining ot the piesent tucih as unjust,
unoipJal, and oppressive, and praying for its mo
dification; which, on motion of Mr. Kino, was
referred to the Committee on Manufactures.'
Imho House of Representatives, the conside
ration of the resolution for the appointment of a
select committee to investigate the ullaus of the
bank Wut resumed. Mr. Root addressed the
House m vindication of the constitutionality and ■
necessity ot a national bank; and moved an ■
amendment to the cllect, that the committee
should be chosen by ballot. The amendment
was withdrawn by courtesy, and Mr. Crawford
followed also in vindication of the conduct ot
ilio bank, hut m favor of the proposed in.piiry,
it if could he accomplished in a limited time.—
Mr. Evans, of Maine, argued oti a variety of
grounds against the adoption of the resolution as
