Uoston, IMiilad. Iphia. atimure, Washington, Mobile, New |cans, and every other quarter ol La lion, received hy the daily p ipers ol t preceding evening. And, as 'die pa t per will he published regularly by sun a fpe, every morning', subscribers will get t >' the news so much earlier than by the lb- ( reign daily papers they receive Irani the ( Post, oliiee. when it opens thereafter, on the same mornings. j j - 9N offering this project to the patronage of the public, we b,.g leave to be understood I SB appealing solely to their interest, as the only solid and proper basis of such an uuder- Mking. Our own interest prompts us to the en tjrpi ize, front a belief that it may bo profitable as well as useful to tho public;; foi, iMsloss it bo ussfu , and therefore i roftlahle, to the public, it ought nut to bo, and wo are sensi ble cannot and will nut bo, profitable to us; and We therefore desire no one to patronize it. hut fifcm an expectation of “ value received lor tljer r money, or to continue their subscriptions thereafter, should they be disappointed in that j expectation. The correct principle of all husi : ness transdetiins (and this is, of course, as much a befmess transaction as any other) and the ou.y | one on which they can be safely, honestly, pro fitably, or permanently maintained, is mutual icwf tand self-interest. And, relying upon this, in the present enterprize, vve shall look closely rA'nd actively to the interests of our subscribers, the best means of promoting our own —sensi- ble that whether they like or dislike us person ally, they will patronize the paper, if we make it ,|o their interest to do so, and that the more in- Aistiiously and p.crseveringly wo labor for them, *|hc more general and valuable will be their pa nonage. And, should vve at any tune, become Slrgetftd of them and our duties, the best way Os correcting the evil, and arousing our energies :«4n.l proper sense of the source from whence vve our profits, will oe to withdraw their | -jJfcim...... till it shall be to their interest to re- it.° This will be due to themselves, and thing more than just to us. And, while no. editor has the right to enquire of a subscriber the cause oi a withdrawal ofhis subscription,to com ilain o' him Ibr it, would be to attach to others, tho blame, which, in nine cases out often, is due on yto ourselves. If a man does not consider it lus interest to continue Ins subscription lunger, whether right or wrong in his opinion, he is just as free to do so, as to withdraw his patronage from any Store—and to enqui; e of him the cause, is impertinent, while to blame him for it, is arro gant and unjust. The patronage of a paper should always bo given, or withdrawn, from a sens j of the value ol the paper to the public, or to ones-self, without any reference whatever to the editor personally, whom one may like or dis like, without liking or disliking his paper—and liie re fore an editor should never consider tire withdrawal of subscription,as a personal matter, in the least, or feel the less respect or regard for the individual who withdraws it. Its only effect should bo to prompt him to an examination of Ids conduct, and the correction of any errors ho may discover, and to stimulate him to greater exertions—determined, at least, neither j to deserve censure, or loss of patronage, so far as j his honest efforts can avail to prevent it. As to | the withdrawal of patronage for a difference of political or religious opinion, that is a thing which should never pain, or move for a moment, any honest and independent editor, as, amid the endless variety ofhuman opinion on those sub jects, the same expression of opinion which would induce one man to withdraw, would in duce another or more to subscribe—at least, so wo have found it. Commercial patronage, however, has little or nothing to do with personal controversy or con flict of opinion; hut is founded, principally, on in dustry, energy, honesty, and perseverance, in the quick publication of all important facts, and able and intelligent comments upon them, cal culated to dovelopo their true nature and conse quences. And, commercial men, undivided and unprejudiced by party, will,as all others ought to do, always carefully examine both sides of every question, looking more to the intiinsic value of i tlie opinions & arguments themselves, than to the 1 persons who utter them. However, then, vve j may differ fom any of cur merchants politically, , ivliile we shall continue freely to express our po ilical opinions, uninfluenced by any man or any tarty, vve have no doubt they will patronize us, 10 long as vve may make it to their interest to do m, commercially; and the Daily paper will be ( leveled chiefly to their interests. And they can- ! lot ho unaware, tint no paper can honestly a 'roe with them altogether, and that while they j infer from us in some things, they will probably igreo with us in others, and tlie same also with my paper that boldly ami honestly expresses, as ivery one ought to do, its own opinions, and not hose of a arty, or of any other paper or person. : We believe that a Jirsl-rale Daily Paper, such *•» - •lnter , “*--■* - 1 -"- - * 11 1 11 * liglily valuable to Uie place, and profitable both . o its patrons and to ourselves. 1 lie gieal oil octof commercial men, in patronizing papers, is ; 0 obtain tho earliest commercial intelligence I Vom all quarters; and to elluct this, many sub iClibe for several daily commercial papers, puln ' billed in different quarters. Vet still, as few, it , my, can afford to have one from every sea port, ( n commercial town, intelligence will often arrive , y papers which they do not take, which will give j .hose who receive those papois, the advantage . >f them. And beside this, many of them have j scarcely time to look through all the eommer- ( aial matter of every paper they receive (and of- ( luu to no effect,)to find such as concerns them- , selves or tho particular business of this city, i Our object will be to have every commercial paper that is desirable, throughout the Union—to get them from the Post-office, each evening, the the moment they are received there—and to se lect from them, set m type, durina the night and publish hy sunrise, next morning, all tho im taut commercial intelligonco they contain—al so, the important political and other news, so far as’the time will permit—giving tho preference, always to the commercial, and all that mostly concerns the commercial community. Thus lay ing before tho Merchant, each morning, before he leaves his residence, all that valuable in formation which is calculated to govern his transactitms throughout the day. To eflect all this, the paper will he consideruly enlarged, the best of workmen will he engaged, and the; commercial department placed exclusively un-j der tho control of a commercial editor. By thus concentrating all the valuable commercial Intel-1 ligonce font all quarters, the Merchants of this place may be saved the great expense in curred iu dailys from abroad, and the onerous trouble of searching through a bushel of com mercial chaff, for a grain of wheat, and often not even that—and will receive it also some hours earlier than they could obtain tho foreign papers which contain it, from tlie Post Office.—lt will be both an expensive and laborious enterprize: but, neither labor or expense are to be eared for, in any undertaking, so long as they can be suc cessfully and profitably employed; and of this we have not the slightest doubt m the present enterprize—at any rate we have determined not to s, are them, in the effort foi success; and some generous fiends, who entertain sim ilar opinions of its success, and confidence in our exertions, have had tire kindness to step forward voluntarily with offers of pecu niary assistance, should we need it.—We are in reaty withagontleman of extensive commercial ns well as general intelligence and information, for a sale to him of one half of the establishment —he to taken,. on himself the entire contiol ot the comraeicial department of it. But, should not this arrangement be made, an able, intelli gent, and capable commercial editor will be eu <,a ,r ed. —Wo shall stake every tiling upon tins enterprize, and vve trust tlie community is suffi ciently acquainted with us to believe, thal^wi , are not disposed to do things by halves. Th< question, then, is, Will such a paper be valuable to them—vrorth the price of it ? All we ask, is, give, us a fair trial, at the start, and if you ar disappointed, withdraw your patronage, al vacc, 1 icithoitl the hast hesitation. t NiZJVA- Vinwr 1 - r —-Mr-m. —r °i _ IMUII ATER. ■ I 0 WHOM IT may OO.ycEßX.aj B j tlie use of llr.
