it barely necessary to state the political
principles which shall guide its course.
The excitement which has spread
throughout the whole Southern country,
in consequnce of the unrighteous Tarill
of 1828, has cretited a marked -dillerence
in the political sentiments of the citizens
of the [South, -as touching the powers ol
the (General (Government—which difler
ence, it is our enndid belief, will in a
great measure ho removed, by laying be
fore them, in as clear and intelligible
form as possible, the principles and cor
rect policy of our entirely new and expe
rimental government. The course we
think has not been pursued in as direct a
as might have been wished. The
disputes of parlies have usurped 100
nrgely the columns ol' the lew orthodox
papers in ourcountry, to allow a candid,
sober and dispassionate investigation ol
our national policy—and, of the delicate
relations which exist—and which were 1
'intended by the framers of the 1 vied
States Constitution to exist—between
the several States and the Federal < Gov
ernment. We would not indeed by the
expression ol this opinion, be supposed
t>> accuse those prints of dereliction ol
duly, hut merely to slate a fact, which
must be apparent to the Editors them
selves oft hose papers.

Schools of this kind established 'in
Tennessee and in the Middle and North
ern Elutes have nourished beyond the ex
pectations of the most sanguine. Hun
dreds of applications to enter students
have been rejected during the year for
the want of accommodation. The writer
has been urged by several respectable
and literary gentlemen, who have prom
ised (heir sons, to open a similar one in
(.Georgia and he now designs to make the
