oppose the law. let it take its course

We stop the press to announce that our
eity has been visited hy another distress
ing calamity. At I o’clock yesterday
morning, a fire broke out at the store of
>lr. Richard Smith, which destroyed
every building on that square, fronting
Fayetteville street, with the exception of
the Dank of N'cvvberu, which was pre
served with great difficulty.
Nearly all the houses burnt wore occu
pied as stores. Most of the drygoods
except those in the store of Mr. Richard
Smith, were saved; but a large portion
of the groceries were destroyed. 'I he
hooks and records of the office of the
Dounty Register were consumed. Fur'
