county generally, assembled at the Baptist
Church. At the hour of twelve o'clock, the at
tention of the audience was ca led to the read
ing of the Declaration of Independence; by Mr.
T . W. Rucker, who pronounced it inja clear
and distinct tone ; after which, un Ora'ion w.s
delivered by VVm. B. White, Es-j. breathing a
spirit of paTietism, worthy of the flays of’76,
that tried "the sou<s men.” The company
then repaired to a neighboring grove, and par
took of a sumptuous dinner, prepared for the
occasion by our patriotic, follow citizen and
townsman, Dr. Tuos. F. Giebs. Tho cloth be
ing removed, and the meeting called to order,
Judge Henry White, presiding, assisted by
Singleton W. All'zn, Esq. tho following sen
timents were given, and approbation expressed
by cheers and rapping only., nothing e ith or v j.
