At a meeting held on the 7th at Dublin, Conciliation Hall, O’Connell said. “There h one delightful thing in connection with this act of justice. On Thursday Sir Robt. Peel, brought in the Maynooth bill, and passed it by a majority of 182, and on the followiug nay (Friday,) he set the Ameri cans nt defiance, (cheers,) yes, finding himself in a strong position, and by this art of justice to Ireland, he addresses lan guage to America befitting a British Min ister. I say, go on in the same way and we will set the Americans at defiance.— (Protracted cheers.) The weekly receipts for rent were jC700 r/ ichich. £A'M came from America. SWITZERLAND. Tiic bloody strile of civil war, urged on hy religious and political fanaticism has commenced in Switzerland. An army of 5000 men, termed the free cores, from their voluntary association, in vaded the Canton of Lucerne for the pur pose of compelling them to drive out the Society of Jesuits. The town of Lucerne was hastily fortified, and an army of from 10.000 to 20,0IM) men raised to repel the invaders. The volunteers were repulsed with the loss of 600, or according to some, 1,200 men. The country people of Lu cerne who had suffered them to pass with out resistance, set upon them in their re treat with such fierceness, that it is said, that out ef 4,000 or 5,000, not more than 2.000 escaped massacre. The extraordinary Diet of Switzerland met again on the llth, audit was hoped that order might lie restored. From the Fort Gaines Whig, Planter*’ Club of Early On tiie fifth of May, notice being previously given, tae citizen of Early met at tho Court House m the town of Biakely, for the purpose of forming a Vlan- t'T.i’ Club. On motion of Mr. S. II. Trulock, Major Joel CEAwroni) was called to the Chair, U. Txclock to act as Secretary. After some appropriate remarks troin the Chair in tho way of explanation, there was appointed a committee of five to draw up articles of constitution, when Maj. J. Crawford proposed to read to the committee, articles which he had previously drawn up, which, after lieing read the second time, '■•'ere unanimously adopted, and handed, over to the Secretary. On motion of Judge William Castleber ry. the names were next taken of such individuals as v -ish to become members of the Club, when some twenty-four gentlemen enrolled .heir name*. It was evolved that each member should, on enrolling his '-lair, pay the sum of fifty cents, to defray tho neces sity expeares. On motion ot Mr. Reese, it was re vived, that it shall bo the duty of the President, with theconsent of tho Vico President,to appoint a spea ker for the regular sessions, which will be the first Thursday in January and May. , _ The Cl ub then proceeded to the election of officers.
