Tlio Texans are now selling their unimproved lands at two to three dob- lavs per acre; and tlrcy have not the most distant idea of disposing of the same to the United States government in tlie payment of their debt. It is said loo, that only small portions of these lands arc encumber ed by indiun titles; and thm no .Indians are located upon them. The Cnroanches are the only tribe in Texas, and they roam from place to place like the wandering A- rnbs. Tlie Congress of the United States excluded the debt and lands of Texas from the contract,'and the inveterate opponents of the measure, can therefore dissipate ail fears of evil and injustice on this score.— The government of Mexico, it seems by re cent demonstrations, is the only power that has deemed it expedient to tak« practical exception to the whole proceeding; and she will soon bo taught by I ho American people, 'he complete infatuation of her im potent and blustering'declarations of war! According to the report of an expert ge ologist, Von Gerold, diamonds have been discovered in the Mexican mountain range in the Sierra Madre, in the direction of Aca pulco to the Soul h West of the city of Mex ico. Humboli had conjectured that dia monds and platina occurred further to the northwest, in tlie gold washery of Sonoro. It is also said fhat iibiRCnse tracts of aurif- arous alluvia occurred' in Upper California, as also in New Mexico. They are princi pally in possession of-wild tribes, a circum stance which accelerates the intrusion of N. We heard it stated an Saturday last, says the Philadelphia Ledger, hy an intelligent officer of the United States Government, that Mr. Polk was de termined, in case of a war with Mexico, to make a terrible example of any foreigners not belonging to Mexico, or parties to tho war, who may attempt aggressions upon American commeroe under color of letters of marqnc from the Mexican Government. He will, give orders to the Naval commanders to treat all such adventurers as pirates, as in reality they will be. It will be easy to distinguish them by language, and a few examples it it thought will he sufficient to pot a stop to their cowardly, dishon est and murderous operations. The Mexicans have bat a very limited marine, and have scarcely energy or enterprise sufficient to put ten privateers afloat bat a war will afford a pretext to adventurers of other rations to commence a system of robbery un der letters of marque, and the best means we. can adopt to defend ourselves against them, will be to pursue the course which it is said tho President has already marked out, and punish them as pimtea. New Mode of War. In oar paper test Friday, wo gave an extract of letter front Vera Crux, in which we. were informed that tho Castle of San Joan do Ulloa was stripped of all its shot, for fear it might fall into the hands of tho Americans. Another letter from Tobascostatcs that the Mexicans have taken all the guns and sol diers from tho fort at the month of the river, for safe keeping. But tho captain of tho steamboat, in attempting to land the same, let all the cannon roll in the river, where I think they will remain. If they don't whip Uncle Sam, well he darned! (Oti Dominion.
