THE DESTINY OF CANADA.
The Courier des Etals Unis has lieen
involved in a discussion of Canadian af
fairs, in which he has had notation to de
fend himself frotn the charge of eounsel-

gant and modest reserve, but without em

to preserve tlieir lienuty to an advanced
age. This may be attributable to the cli
mate nnd the peaceful lives in the bosom
of their families, where inindqml body are
not worn out hy artificial passions of so
ciety. In almost nil the families which I
visited, I lound the mother as beautiful as
the daughters, though the latter were not
more than sixteen years of age.

ROME AND MEMPHIS RAILROAD.
The Rome Journal of the 10th inst.,
say*:—On Thursday last the adjourned
meeting of the Sln-kholders of the Rome
and Memphis Railroad, assembled nt the
Court House in that place, lur the furth
