The strong feeling lately exhibited in the
mining districts of California in favor of intro
ducing slave labor into that portion of our ter-
ritory on the Pacific, has, we perceive, had its
effect on many citizens on the Atlantic const
wrho, well aware of the innumerable advantages
that would accrue to them were they permitted
to employ that particular description of proper
ty in the gold regions, are daily making arrange
ments for the transportation of themselves and
slaves to that section of our possessions, and
that fine steamship, tho Isabel, has on several
occasions had on board some passengers with
their servants en route for the Pacific. On her
Colt’s Pistols.
Our readers are aware that when the Chrys-
tal Palace was first opened the English press
expressed great astonishment at the meagre
display in the department alloted to the United
States, and thaf tho jeers and ridicule which
that mengreness called forth wore keenly felt
by our people. But when sufficient time had
elapsed for the visiters of the exhibition to be
come accustomed to the elaborate elegance of
eastern workmanship—when they ceased to
gaze on the Queen’s diamond from India, the
shawls of Cashmere, the crapes of Canton, the
lace of Brussels, and the fans and gloves of
Paris, and found time to consider the useful con
tributions to tho Great Fair—then, for the first
time, we heard that the “prairie ground” was
not witbont its interest Soon the London
Times, which had been filled with ridicule of
American inventors, changed its tone. Its pre-
last trip, she took out a large number, amongst judices were forced to give way; and nothing
whom, as we learn from the Vorkville Remedy,
were twenty young men with as many negroes,
from Borke and Catawba counties, North Caro
lina-some, says tho Remedy, hardy looking
contributed to that result so much as Colt’s re
peating pistols and McCormick’s reaping ma
chine.
We hare already transferred to our columns

ed hy that organ, against the best and purest
public men of the North.—Marietta Advocate.
Parties.
The decree has gone forth by tho voice of
the people themselves, that parties shall bo
again arrayed upon the great mass of political
principles which have heretofore divided thenv
Throughout the North and West the Whigs and
Domocrats are organizing for the Presidential
election as heretofore. They are doing so irv
every State in the Union except South Caroli
na ; and we believe that State will be found in
the Democratic ranks. In the South the Denu
ocrats generally are Southern Rights men; in
the North the South has but few friends lo her
rights but among the Democrats. Southern
Rights Whigs in the South see this, and aro
acting with the Democrats.
The Constitutional Union party in Georgia*
is, in the main, the Whig party in disguise.—*
This the Union Democrats are fast finding out.
Let our friends, then, be of good cheer, and
prepare every man for doing hia whole duty.
Southern Rights Whigs, you beKeve that the
majority of your old Whig friends have-faltered
in the hour of danger and trial They have
been misled; of course then you will not unite
with them to bestow your honors upon th»
leaders who have been weighed in the balance
and found wanting.—ConsRMicmaHA . .-/i
