As I attributed no blame to the Pardon Clerk,
the above was in no way sailed for in self-defens*.

Whether whet Judge Conway said is or Unot tru*
is altogether another question. He made the charge,
publicly and to the President. If Mr. l'lcasanis’

usually clear perception* he would have seen that

rected. But I very cheerfully give him tho benefit
of his statement in Hie above nolo.
