TO T1IE CITIZENS OF GEORGIA
Tb*termination of a sanguinary contest, which
tor the past four years has prenentcd an impassable
barrier to all social or -qommercial intercourse be-
tween the two great sections of ouremintry, baring
at length happily cleared away nil obstacles to
renewal of these relations which formerly bonnd i
together in a fraternal union, I take the earlieej
opportunity afforded by this auspicious event, to
greet my Southern friends, and to solicit from them
a renewal of that extensive business which'for a
quarter of a century has been uninterrupted save hy
the great public calwmity to which I have adverted.
It ie scarcely necessary, on the threshold of a
business re-union-I should repeat the warning so
ofieu given to my friends—to. beware of all these
spurious and deleterious compounds which, under
the specious and false titles of Imported Wines-
Brandies, Holland Gin, Liquors, &c., Lave been
equally destructive to the health of our citizens as
prejudicial; to> the interests. of the legitimate Im
porter. v
Many year & of my past life have been expended
in an open and candid attempt to expose these
wholesale frauds; no time nor expense has been
spared to accomplish this salutary purpose, and to
place before my frieuds and the public generally t
at the lowest market price, and in such quantities
as might suit tlieir convenience, a truly genuiue*
imported article.
Twenty-five years* business transactions with the
largest and most respectable exporting houses in-
France and Great Britain hav§ afforded 'me unsur
passed facilities for supplying’ our home market with
Wines, Liquors, and Liqmures of the beat and most
approved^Brands in Europe, in addition lo my own
distillery in Holland for the manufacture of the
4 * Schiedam Selmaps.”
The latter, so long tested and approved by the
medical Faculties of the United Stales, West Indies
and South America as an invaluable Tlierapeutio, a
whok**"** pleasant, and perfectly safe beverage
all climates and during all seasons, quickly exci
ted the cupidity of the home manufacturers and Yen*
dev»»£ a spurious article under the’same name.
I trust tlwvt I have, after much toil and expense,
surrounded all iny importations with safeguards and
directions which with ordinary circumspection will
insure their delivery, as 1 receive them from Europe,
to nil my customers. .. .
I would, however^ ecouiracndi in all cases where
it is possiWe, that orders be sent direct to my depot’
22 Beaver Street, New York, or that purchases be
made of avy accredited agent8.
In addition; to a large stock ©f Wines, E«MKfie3
&C;, in. wood, l have a coueidteritble supply of old
tried, foreign Winns*, embracing vintages of many
years past, BoOtlcd up before the commencement of
the war, which I can especially recommend to ajl
connoisseurs of these rare luxuries.
In conclusion, I would specially call the early at
tention of my Southern customers So*W»e advantage
to be derived by transmitting tlieir orders witlwut
loss of time, or catling personally at the depot,
order to insure the fulfilment of tlieir orders out of
the present large and well selected assortment.
