Anecdote oT Queen Victoria.
-The following incident is related of Queen
Vietona’s recent visit to Scotland:
, . While in Scotland the Queen was in the,
lmbit of taking a drive every morning.—
One day, when returning liome from her
drive, slip overtook a poor old man, who ear
ned a faggot on his back and appeared much
fatigued.
Her magesty ordered tho carriage to be
stopped, and. addressing the peasant, said t
Whence came yon, my friend, and where
are you going?”
“1 come from Cromarty,” replied the old
man, “ and am going to Dundee.”
“ I sec you are tired,” said the Queen,“and
your faggot seems very heavy. Place it at
the back of tire carriage and nioun
beside the coachman. .
In this manner the old man continued his
jounrey. Arrived at his destination, lie de
scended from the coach-box and gave tho
Queen a hearty shake of the hand, saying:
“Thankee,inarm. A good irtnny stuck-up

A Paint Mine.
A party of gentlemen digging in tlie.
Ifonntaius of Brock’s Gap, have discovered
a bed of paint, whose outcroppings arc of a
delicate bluish tint. The material has been
ground up in a mortitr, worked in oil, and
pplied to wood, and is found to be a most
capital paint. It is pronounced by painters
who have seen it a very valuable article of
paint. - It mixes readily, even with fisli oil,
and dries well. Tlie bed seems to be an
extensive’one, Tlie exploration has gone
Imt a short distance below the surface.—
Tlie material seems to grow whiter as the
work goes Jower. There is plenty of ycl-
low othre on (he surface near where this was
discovered.—Itichiuond Enquirer.
