.Sentenced to Imprisonment at Hard Labor.
From (he Dublin Evening Mail.
Shortly after midday, on Saturday, two
children, named Bryan—one a girl of about
eight years, the other a boy aged threo
years and. six months—were arrested b; a
police-constable in Westmorland street lor
soliciting alms. The were taken to College
street police station, and charged in duo
course, and were then brought before the
magistrate, Mr. C. J. O’Donnell, at the
head police court. Th .1 charge was proved
and the magistrate made his decision. The
decision was, that tho girl should uudeigo
imprisonment in Gangegorman Penitentiary
for fourteen days, and be kept to hard labor
and that the boy, three and a-half. years old
should be sent to Richmond Bridewell—be
there detained for fou.fecn days, mud-kept
to hard- labor! The next question were,
what clothes he should he dressed in and to
what hard work put? Never contemplat
ing that such a youthful'prisoner should bo
sent to jail, the board of snperintendancti
had made no provision iu their wardrobe for
him, noy the inspectors-general defined what
hard work was suitable for his age. The re
sult was that the humane governor was
obliged to procure, some slight articles of
clothing for the poor crcafure, and send him
to the'hospital ward to betaken care of.—
Mcanwhi.e, the inspectors-general have been
communicated with, and by their instruc
tions the local inspector lias forwarded to
the Government a repert 011 the case ac
companied by a copy pf the magistrate’s
commital.

The New York Day Book proponuds to
the Radical “Saints” the following little
question. It is quite simple, and easily an
swered—because of its tmthfu'ncss :
Why are the Mongrels so fearful lest all
their work wiJJ be undone, that they work-
10 bind this -generation and all future ones
not to disturb it? Becanse they know- in
their hearts, if they will not confess it with
their lips, that from the day that Mr. Lincoln

Butler’s cry of impeachment has been
taken up no# by Forney, Bingham, Brown-
low and Hamlin. The other day some
‘smart’chap of the ‘Bogus Howard'Procla
mation’ sort, sent a despatch over the wires
affirming that President Johnson had aih
dressed some interogatories to his Altoruev
Cieiieral, inquiring whether the present Con
gress were a legal body. As that looked
like resistance to the Mongrel traitors, the
Abolition camy was soon in a flurry.—
Even wall street was aroused from itsdelir-
ous pursuit of money and gave a groan—an
audible groan. Democrats ofthc expedien
cy school were greatly alarmed—kind good
easy souls who tight the “Radicals’ so-call
ed, only in fnn, were almost in hysterics
" hen they heard that some one intended to
oppose them in earnest! However it was
announced that the despatch was bogus,
sent by soinegoid speculator to run up°the
premium, wieh it did—three per cent, at
the first jump When its falsitywvas known
the “Radicals” and the fellows who fight
them ‘all in fun, yon know,” were again
happy. The prospect now, that Mr. John
son intends to be led, like a lamb to the
butcher’s stall gives gre..t delight To Mr.
Money bags,Mr. Conservative. Mr. Don’t-
care-a-dam-wliere-tha-eomitrv-goes-to, and
all their detainers and liangcr-on. Mr. Mon
ey bags is hillarious. He i s perfectly indif
ferent as between Johnson and the Mon-rels
only he deprecates “a muss.” If Johnson
will not yu-ld he is against the mongrels,
but it lie will yield then he is for the Aiou-
gri-Is! Any wav to avoid an insurrection
among the five-twenties and seven-thirties.
He don’t know, poor bliud Money-bags, that
the insurrection is sure to come—much surer
if the Mongrels liMm their way than if John
son ha-t liis. Bi^^Biiiatter, it will come.
And when the financial winds and waves do
conic it will be a regular Evening Star dis-'
aster. There will scarcely anyone left to
tel! the story of the wreck. The Mongrels
•ire now calculating on an easy capture on
Johnson, and then the revolution will bt
complete.

THE RADICAL HEROES.
Up to 1861, Brownlow was the most vio
lent and profane advocate of slavery and a
Southern Confederacy that conld be found
in the whole country. Butler was also a
violent pro-slavery advocate. He quarrel
ed with the democratic leaders in I860 be
cause they were not sufficiently pro-slaverv
aud States rights. Governor General Ham
ilton was an advocate of the revival of the
African slave trade, and ail applicate lor
money to raise a company for the use of the
Southern Uontederney. Speed, the presi-
ileut of the Philadelphia negro-suffrage con
vention, was, at the bogining of the war, op
posed to coercion of the South, and did mare
than any one man except the Rebel Gener
al Buckner, to induce Kentucky to takenp
arms to prevent the Union troops from inva-
ding the South. John A. Logan, now the
great radical Ing gun in the West, was at

“Torch-and-Turpentine” faction. In 1856, in
the course of a speech in Massachusetts, ho
