The Europeans, being insulted and pillaged
by those troops which were besieging- the town,

Philaki.hhia, June 20.—Hill’s extensive
Cotton atwF Woolen MIR at the comer of Jeffer

from the friction of the machinery. - About 900

Hold, Silver, Ires, Capper, Lead, Ac.
La elv while in Carrol! and adjacent counties,
we had ivn opportr.nitv of witnessing the great ex

the all absorbing topic of conversation. Most
persons appeared to have caught in some degree
the contagion, and were on the lookout for new
discoveries,/ Many (formerly prudest men) had
quit their regular employment, aud were search

lead, &>■., extended from Deck town in Tennessee
to the Upper part of Chambers county, Alabama,
running from Northeast to Southwest. Eviden
ces of copper had been discovered in Carroll, but
not in sufficient quantity as yet to authorize any
serious effort at working for it. We were shown
a lump of lend as taken from a mine In Heard
j county, which looked almost pure. Other par
i cels from the satin- bed, had, we were informed,
bec-B tested, and had been found to be from “5
to 80 percent, pire This was not the only
lead ore we heard of, but a number of other veins
were spoken of said to be equally good. Lead
Jitta been taken, we were told, from them in its
rough state, run into bullets and used for shoot
ing deer. Iron orein abundance had been found,
said to be fifty per cent. pure. Also evidences
of silver. Gold has been found for years, and the
■nines are successfully and profitably worked.
It is estimated that t here are now engaged in
hunting copper and other minerals east of the
Allegany and Blue Ridge at least ten thousand
persons, and the number still increasing. Coal
it is thought will also be found in abundance. —
There is certainly a wide field open in that sec
tion for an experienced Geologist, whose labors
aud whose researches might prove of immense
value to the country. — So. Recorder.
The OttPßEii of Tennessee.—The brig Jose

Baltimore, has as part of her cargo 717 boxes

Tennessee ore has been sold in New York at

We have already intimated on a former occasion,;

We prefer to wait the wore full developcmeat of j

will lie made in the approaching elecrtous. ‘Trflbi

feel that hut one stern resolve should lie infixed in
