Sauza. —We have long supposed this celebrated
drug, had come to l<e an exploded humbug, but
we are assured by those skilled in the healing art,
that not the Sarsaparilla itself is to be blamed for
this conclusion, but the miserable worthless pre
parations of it, that have been painted oil upon the
community—preparations which contain about as
much of its virtues as they do of gold dust. It is
a commercial fact that almost all pf the Sarsaparilla
gathered in the world, is consumed in the old
countries of Europe, where the science of medi
cine, has reached its highest perfection, and w here
they know the best w hat to employ for the maste
ry of disease, lienee we ate glad to find that wc
are now to have a compound of this excellent al
terative, which can be relied on, and our commun
ity will not need he assured, that any thing I)ncT.
Atf.h makes, is worthy of their confidence. He
has been for years engaged in eliminating this
remedy (see ad'g cols,) designing to make it his
“ rhef (Tuiin-e’ which should add the crowning
glory to his already enviable reputation. — Ameri

the great value of this remarkable Fertil

Hie following letter is from the pro
prietor of the “ Constitutionalist ” and
“Southern Field and Fireside,” publish
ed tit Augusta, Georgia. The eminent
position held hy Mr. Gardner renders his
voluntary endorsement of the merits of
American Guano of great value.
An.rsTA, G.\„ Nov. “!, Issih
I applied American Guano to about
:}5 acres of cotton. The field was old
land, the oldest 1 lmi\ lint still unite
productive.
I staked oil’ oim acre, on which there
was no manure or guano. I staked offj
four acres, on which I put It'd pounds
guano to the acre, and four acres witli
“On pounds to the acre. The result, in
cluding; the last- picking, is as follows :
Seed Cotton.

This result is no doubt gratifying to
vim. It slows the value of American
< tiia.no.
The guano-was drilled-in the bottom j
of the furrow, and covered by a turning
shovel run on each side. About a month I
after, tile ridge was opened with a small I
scooter plow almii! four inches wide, so J
as not to reach quite down to the guano. I
The seed was then drilled in. and cow red 1
with a forked plow, mad” of two s<-oot j
ers, ahoiif one and tin ti-pu rler inches |
wide each. X\ hen tin* seed coitisneneed i

the ridge. The cultivation after that wa>j
the same as the balance of tlie crop.

I subsoiled it, then cheeked it off with a’

is thin, sandy, piny-woods lafid. In this

it with earth ; over it 1 dropped tlie seed j

second the genuine I’et tivian, and the
third Reese’s Manipulated, at the rate of
about one hundred and eighty pounds to
the acre of each kind. The yield on all
three of these acres is stiherb. and it is
hard to tell, without actual measurement)
which is the greatest.
Many intelligent gentlemen have pro
nounced the acre manured with Ameri

and lam inclined to this opinion. It
will make at least one hundred bushels
of shelled eftrn to the acre. The Ameri
can Gnano seems to lack ammonia, hut
I think it must more than make up for
it in its phosphates, and from this fact
it will prove more durenhle and lasting
than the more volatile Peruvian. I send
you with this a stalk of corn manured with
the American Guano, that you may judge
yourself of its merits. It is true, it is not
owing to tlie fertilizing qualities of
“the guano, as the corn is my prolific va

Scrofula, or King’s Evil,
l a constitutional ilL'cast 1 , a corruption of tho Mood,
by which this fluid becomes vitiated, weak, and
poor. Being in the circntation, it pervad, s the
whole body, and may burst out in disc.u'e on any
part of it. No organ is in e irom its attacks, nor
is there one which it may not do troy. The scrofu
lous taint is variously caused by mercurial di. ( ;. - ,
low living, disordered or unhealthy food, impure
air, tilth and filthy habits, the depressing vines,
and, above all, by the venereal infection. ‘What
ever be its origin, it is hereditary in the constitu
tion, descending “ from parents l children'unto the
third and fourth generation indeed, it seems to
be the rod of llim who say . “ I will visit tlie
iniquities of the fathers upon tucir children.”
Its effects commence by deposition from the
blood of corrupt or ulcerous matter, which, in the
lungs, liver, and internal organs, is termed tuber
cles; in the glands, swellings; and on the surface,
eruptions or sores. This foul corruption, which
genders in the blood, depresses the energies of life,
so that scrofulous constitutions-iiut only suffer from
scrofulous complaints, but they have l’ar less power
to withstand the attacks of other diseases; con
sequently, vast numbers perish by disorders wlmh,
although not scrofulous in their nature, are still ren
dered fatal by this taint in the system. Mist of
the consumption which decimates the human family
has its origin direetiy in this scrofulous contamina
tion; and many destructive diseases of the liver,
kidneys, brain, and, indeed, of all the organs, arise
from or are aggravated hy the same cause.
One quarter of all our people are scrofulous;
their persons arc invaded by this lurking infection,
and their health is undermined hy it. To cleanse
it from the system we must renovate the tuooa
by* an alterative medicine, and invigorate it by
healthy food and exercise. Such a medicine wo
supply in
AVE R ’ S
Compound Extract of Sarsaparilla,
the most effectual lc.nicdy which the medical skill
of our times can devise for this every where pre
vailing and fatal malady. It is combined from the
most active remedial* that have been discovered lor
tlie expurgation of this foul disorder from the blood,
and -the rescue of the system from its destructive
consequences. Hence it should be employed for
the cure of not only scrofula, but also those other
affections which arise from it, such as Eui’t’TlVF.
and Skin Dislasi.s, St. Anthony's Fine, Rose,
or Eavsit'Ki.As, Pinipi.es, Pcstii.es, Blotches,
Blains and Boils, Tcmous, Tetter and Salt
Rheum, Scald Heap, Ri no worm, Rheumatism,
Syphilitic und Mercurial Diseases, Dropsy,
Dyspepsia, Deiiilitv, and, indeed, alt. Complaints
arisino from Vitiated on Impcuk Btnsoi). Tho
popular belief in “ imjmrlti nf tin’ c L,d ‘ is founded
in truth, for scrofula is a degeneration of the Mood.
The particular purpose and virtue of this Sarsapa
rilla i* to purify anil regenerate this vital fluid,
without which sound health is impossible in con
taminated constitutions.
Ayer’s Cathartic Pills,
FOR ALL THE PURPOSES OF A FAMILY PHYSIC,
arc so composed that disease within the ranee of their
action can rarely withstand or evade them. Their pen
etrating properties search, and cleanse, and invigorate
every portion of the human organism, correcting its
diseased action, and restoring its healthy vitalities. As
a consequence of these properties, tho’invalid who is
bowed down with pain or physical debility is astonished
to find his health or energy restored by a remedy at
once so simple and inviting.
Not only do they cure the every day complaints of
every body, lmt also many formidable and dangerous
diseases. The agent below named is pleased to furnish
gratis my American Almnnn'v, containing certificates
of their cures ana directions fm their use in the follow
ing complaints : Costir mes*, Heartburn , Headache,
arising from disordered stomach, Xausta , hull (jest ion.
Pain m and Morbid Inaction of the Unreels, Ib'afulenct/,
Loss of Appetite, Jaundice, ami other kindred com
plaints, arising from a low state of the body or obstruc
tion of its functions.
Ayer’s Cherry Pectoral,
FOR THE RAPID CURE OF
Cough*, Cold*, Influenza. Ifoarsene**, Croup,
Broachitis, Incipient Consumption, ami lor
the relief of Consumptive Patient* in ad
vanced stages of the disease.
So wide is the field of its iisoftdtirsg and so numerous
are the case* of its cures, thut almost every section of
country abounds ill persona publicly known, who have
been restored from alarming and even desperate dis
ease* of the lungs tor its use. When oner tried, its
superiority over every other medicine of its kind is too
apparent to escape observation, and where its virtues
are known, the public no longer hesitate what antidote
to employ for the distressing and danccron* affections
of the pulmonary organs that are incident to our
climate. While many infeiinr remedies Thrust upon
the community have failed and been discarded, tbi* has
gained friend* by every trial, conferred benefita on the
afflicted they can never forget, and produced cures too
uumeroat aM too remarkable to he forgotten.
