At TrWJSCATtOF, in the Presidential canvass of 1850, MR BRECKINRIDGE, the Disunion Can didst© for the Presidency, uttered the following language to the people of Indiana: “ I am connected with no party that lias for its ©bjeetthe EXTENSION OF SLAVERY.! |These •entlmcnts arc as bad as any that Seward ever ut tered.] Nor, with any to prevent the people of a State, OR TERRITORY, from deciding the (pies tlonof its existence with them, for themselves.'’— {Douglas’ Squatter Sovereignly doctrine precisely.] “I happened to Ik* in Congress when the Nclwis It Dill passed, and gave it my voice and vote; and because it did what it did, vi* : It ackhowi kimikh TUB KHIHT OF TIIB Pkoim.k OF Till: TKRItITt • RY TO RKTTI.B THE tJCKSTIOM Foii Till M -KI.VI < amo kot because I nrrroncn—wiiat I i"io sot j now BKi.rnvE —that it Enotsi.vna> Si.wkkv i IMTO TUB TEHHITOnv. FUSION IN NEW YORK The TtUgraph informs us that the Fell snil Douglas parties in the State of New Ymk have agreed on a fusion Ticket, hy which Dougins is to bare 83 votes and Bell 10. ~ if this is true, auil the fusion ticket shall lie sue <essful, it not only defeats Linrolu in New York, but defeats him iu the race for tiie Presidency. In tall the Northern States there are led elcrtnml TOtea. It requires 133 to elect; and suppose l.in coin to get all the other Northern Slates, the loss fd the 85 vote# of New York defeats him. .. Without a fusion of some sort, no one doubts that Lincoln will carry New Yoik. The relative strength of parties in that Statei* about as. follows: 1 Lincoln 860,000; Douglas, 230,000; Bell, 120,000 And Breckinridge, 50,000; so that tlio combined rote of Dougina and Bell will reach 340,000 and take the electoral vote from Lincoln. Wc art not in favor of fusion in any Southern State, because there is no need of it. All the votes •f the South will count again*! Lincoln anyway. Hit we are glad that this arrangement lia bceu ntMehi New York for two reasons: lu. Because it sccuraa the defeat of Lincoln which ought !•? gratify evefy. Southern man. 2nd.lt secures 10 electoral to Bell cud Everett that they could pot get without the fusion, and these 10 vote* may secure their election. STATE ELECTION & Between now and November State Election* will beheld as follows: Vermont—lst Tuesday in September. California—lst Wednesday in September. Maine—2nd Monday in September. Florida—lst Monday in October. Mississippi—lst Mondav in October. • South Carolina—2nd Monday in October. Indiana—2nd Tuesday in October. lowa—2nd Tuesday in October. Pennsylvania—2nd Tuesday iu Oetober. —- t3F*Wc have been retpuested by a subscriber to publish entire, Mr. Bell's speech of the tith of July 1850. The speech is too long, our paper will not hold it without crowding out all other reading matter. The object of desiring its publication is doubtless to try to convince some prejudiced mind that John Bell is true to the South and her institutions. But it is clear to ua tbat any southern man who would aeeue Mm of unaoundnewia so given over to hard nfMS of heart and political iniquity, that nothing Short of divine inspiration can save him. : ‘> ■ —— -.m A SHORT OAT lit IIIS.M <t'j *TIoN D<> you lielieve the <'oiititiit‘on < 1 the Failed Stan s i* An-'.
