This predietion, like that of Talleyraud as
to the future growth and power of Uile conn-

tion to (hone who shall witness Ua fulfillment,
is but the expression of a sound judgment and
a wise sagacity working upon facts and con
ditions visible to every body, but not J>y ev
ery body capable of being combined into one
clear, striking conclusion. The indications
of the present condition of popular feeling
aud of governmental structure* in Europe,
show that all contests, political and religious,
are moving together towards a point where they
«ball meet, aud make but on* grand contest
for the overthrow of all obstructions to full
liberty of conscience, education and action.—
England, in moving against a State church,
is assailing established privileges.
France is demanding, with anthorty, liber
ty to govern herself. Germany is coalesciug
from a score of fragments into one great
power, so that when the contest for full liber
ty comes it may be fought out on one field.—
Spain would be far on the road to a republic),
if sbe were only safely past anarchy. Italy

of this “Democratic" journal, a party whose

This ia all vary fine. That ••Democracy,"
in its modern aooepUfiou. ia a mere term
without meaning; a shadow of the past, pos
sessing nothing tangible for the present or
future; a sort of receptacle for the disappoiut-

whereof B. & Hill is o notable type; o mere
organisation for plaoe and plunder; an obsti

(sir elections; having no policy sxoopt hatred
of the negro and oontempt of the Govern
ment ; uo principles exoept an avowed lost for
public plunder—that these are its component
articles of faith, all intelligent men know, and
moot oandid men admit!
But what is to be tho nomenclature of the pro
posed “neic party T Is it to be national in
its prinoipleu? Ia it to be repablioen iu its
teuets ? Or is it to be the old proteas of
State Sovereignty iu a new form ? The Con
stitution says: "Res adjudicala applies to
other things than law. Slavery is dead, but s
live qm-Htiuu is to make the freed men profita
ble laborers and good cilueiu." Then, is the
negro to be really a “citizen?” Heretofore it

the people of England, now resolved upon the

The so-called Demooratio papers of-this

Richard’s cry was, “My kingdom for a

It is not to be presumed tb*t Richard was

great object was to get an animal whieh
