Ws lave ta Three CilwaUs.-lu this
country, wa have, at different saaaona of tha year, the
temperature of three climates. Our springs and Au
tumns havs a softness and mildness that belong only
to the temperate Zones; our Mid-summers are torrid,
and our Mid-winters almost arctlo In their frigidity.—
These changes, involving a variation of from ninety
toons hundred degrees of Fahrenheit during the
year, are upon iha whole conducive te health and long
Ufa, but they tend to entail upon us some distressing
complaints which can only be escaped by the exercise
of dne care and the use of proper antidote when the
system is predisposed to contract them. The thief
and most annoying of these disorders is dyspepsia,
once supposed to be Incurable, but which, since the
introduction of HOSTETTRU’a STOMACH BITTERS,
now about twenty years ago, has proved to be a per
fectly manageable disease.
In the Spring and Fall, but more especially In the
Fall, the symptoms of dyspepsia are generally aggra
vated. The profuse expenditure of the animal fluids
under the burning son of summer, is apt to leave the

Messrs. Lawtfu A Haynes, Atlanta, Ga.:
Yonr letter of Ootober 6th, to Mr. P. 8.
Bartlett, General Traveling Agent of this Com
pany, wherein yon mention that certain state
ments have been made in your eity, detrimen
ftal to the ch&raater of the Elgin Watches, for
Finish and Durability, has been referred to me,
and I desire to note briefly in reply as follows:
First, as regards the finish of onr movements.
Upon this point your own opinion, with the
published testimonials of the most practical
and experienoed watch-makers in the oountry,
and the medals and diplomas that have been
awarded to them for “perfect construction
and fine finish " at eight different Stats Fblrs,
withiu the past two years, should be oonclu-
nive to yoar customers. Seooud, as regards
Durability. The only possible critioimn upon
this point is “that the weiehee have been bat
a short time in market, and although without
doubt they ooold not have gained the reputa
tion they have, without being more than ordi
narily correct time keepers, and of handsome
appearance, it cannot be hnom whether they
will last"
In reply to this, I have to oay: First—That
the we*ebea sold by as two and a half years
ago are in aa good eondition to-day, where
they have had proper nssgo, as upon the day
of their purchase. Beoood—That the use of
machinery in tho conetruotion of our move
ments, and that of a superior kind, enablos
ns to nse a harder metal for pinions and
wheels than oan be found in othex watches
not cojtiracted inje similar manner, end en
cores leos Motion in the watch train by the
greater exootoomr and uniformity of machine
over hand labor, and we know, and every
meoheetie kaowe, that watches made open onr
American pkrinsiple are superior to, and will
oWtlsei twice ever aft others. * '
Third—To settle this point definitely, yon
arc authorized to say to your oastomen that
if any watch, hearing me Uede-murk Shalt,
with proper usage, within ten years from
date of phreheiie, wear out, so us to become
d too high,
