We Live In Three Climates.—In this
country, we have, at different aeasona of the year, the
tempersturo of three climates. Our springs aud Au
tumns have a softness and raildneae that belong only
(o the tsmporate Zones; our Mfd-antnmers are torrid,
and our Mid-winters almost arctic in their frigidity.—
Those changes, involving a variation of from ninety
to one hundred degrees of Fahrenheit during the
year, are upon vhe whole conducive to health and long
life, but they tend to entail upon us some distressing
complaints which can only be oscaped by the exercise
of due care and the use of proper antidote when the
system is pre-diaposed to contract them. Tho chief
noet annoying of these disorders is dyspepsia,
supposed to be incurable, bat which, since the
Introduction of H09TETTER , B STOMACH BITTERS,
about twenty years ago, has proved to be a per
fectly manageable disease.
In the Spring and Fall, bnt more especially In the
Fall, the symptoms of dyspepsia are generally aggra
vated. The profuse expenditure of tho animal fluids
under the burning aun of summer, is apt to leave the
stomach weak and Indolent and incompetent to the
task of perfect digestion. It requires a tonic which
will rouse It from its lethargy and brace and invigor
ate without irritating or inflaming it. This tonic has
been provided in the wonderful vegetable preparation
which lisa replaced, in a great measure, all tho old
pilliatlves formerly prescribed by physicians, under
the false Idea that (he disorder could not be radically
cured. Thoaucceas of nOSTETTElt* 4 ’ BITTERS in
all the varieties of dyspepsia, acuta or chronic, baa ef
fectually exploded this fallacy, and it is now recom
mended as a specific for indigestion by some of tho
most amiusul members of tbe medical profession,

Messrs. Jxiwshe Jk Ilaynes, Atlanta, Go.:
Your letter ol October 6th, to Mr. P r 8.
Bartlett, General Traveling Agent of this Com
pany, wbereiu you mention that certain state
ment* have been made in your city, detrimeny
tal to the character of the Elgin Watches, for
Finish and Durability, has been referred to me,
and I desire to note briefly in reply m follows:
First, aa regards the finish of our movements.
Upon thia point your own ojtinion, with the
published testimonials of the most practical
and experienced watch-makers iu the oountry,
and the medals and diplomas that hava beon
awarded to them for “porfoct construction
and fine finish " at eight different State Fairs,
within the past two years, should bo conclu
sive to your customers. Second, as regards
Durability. The only possible criticism upon
this point is “that the watches have been but
a short time in market, and although without
doubt they could not have gained the reputa
tion they have, without being more than ordi
narily correct time keepers, and of handsoOia
appearance, it ennnot be Known whether tkffy
will last”
In reply to this, I have to say: First—That
the watches sold by us two and a half years
ago are in ns good condition to-day, where
they have hod proper usage, an upon the day
of their purchase. Second—That the nse of
machinery in the construction of our move
ments, and that of a superior kind, enables
MtooN i harder metal fur piuioEH end
wheels than can be found iu other watffhee
not oooatructed inja similar manner, and se
cures less friction iu the watch train by the
greater exactness and uniformity of machine
over hand labor, and wo know, aud: every
mechanic knows, that watchos made upon our
Amerieun principle are superior to, end will
outlast twice over all others
Third—To settle tbie point definitely, you
are authorised to say ro your customer* that
if auy watch beariug our trade-mark aholl,
with prop#* usage, withiu ten years from
date of purchase, wear .Out, M ss to bet
useless to.the owner, wo will gits a
movement of the woe grade therefor.
Hoping this *411 meet all objections
