" Arrival •• . iU1
Tuesday two fin* tteemeri urtwd at IM%
^ from Baltimore, via Richmond, Nor
folk and Roanoke Wand. ^
-ftc Fannie Lohr, CepL C. H. Lowli, is a
fmiido-whcol ftoamer, of*9Gtoni burthen,
l£0.(eet long; breadth of beam over all, 40
fet; diameter of paddles, 510 feet, liar ma-
fhincry coniiste of two low pressure engines,
,j ,4.i nc h cylinder and 2 feet stroke. Tho
fBj-ines have separate action. Tho steamer
w built in 1663—draws 8 1*2 feet when load-
el.
Her accommodations for passengers are de_
put and complete, and her ^spate-rooms, of
,hieh tlioro are 15, with doable berths in each)
lit supplied with all the modern improre-
ptnti for the comfort and convenience of six-
p«sacngors. One of the features of the Fan-
; '. f Li hr is the bridal state-room, tastefully
Sued up.
* The stcaraor Minnie Brandt, Capt, A. Tra-
r#rs, is ft counterpart of the Fannie Lehr, and
; t the samo dimensions. Her engines and
y-ilers aro, however, on the high pressure prin
ce.
Those stoamers were pnrohasod recently
riom tho Government by Messrs. J. Brandt
ud K. Lehr, of Baltimore, and are intended
io run on the Savannah River in connection
with the Baltimore and Savannah line of
corners, for whioh ss ire they are admirably
adapted. They are cc ^uded by officers of
iarge experience in steam navigation, who, by
ihcir gentlemanly deportment, will no doubt
reoder this a favorite line Messrs. West,
Bryan & Co. are tho agents in this city.
The Weather.
FcrhapB in the memory of the oldest inhabi
tant of tho State, the weather at this time of year
U< never boon so mild. The thermometer yester-
i»j, *U day long, kept op to sammor heat, and
ilth the exception of the two days of oold rain
in the early part of tbs week, there has not been
inching in the weather to indicate the approach
efthe winter. On Thursday last the sun was so
itroog that people in the streets, were, almost as if
i; were midsummer, kept along the shady
i;de. Tho air, too, continues to be quite mild and
ufl, while the leaves on the trees remain still un-
willlng to leave so long as we have got summer
a winter. Children in the squares and parks
flay at their hoops and other toys just as in the
nininer evonings, and dies and other insects are
ilmost as plenty and annoying aa they were three
tr four months past. It is to be hoped we will
tot have to pay for this beautiful weather by hav
es winter run into a portion of the spring.

“Re-Opening oC an 014 Establish
ment.”
The above is the caption of a highly impor
tant advertisement to the traveling public, at
thii time of crowded hotels. Hundreds of
our citizens will agree with us, that tho re-
opening of Mr. Goo. Gemenden’a Planter’s
Hotel and Restaurant is most welcome news.
As a eateror, “Mine Host” is in himself a trav-
ehng card of good living and clever spirit.—
Hie line, healthy appearance, and tho pleasant
welcome which greets his guests, are enough
in themselves to ensure repeated visits to his
H&taurant, which, for neatness, comfort and
6 W *U appointod larder in all the solids and
delicacies of tho season, prepared by excellent
cooks and served by polite and accommoda
ting waiters, has heretofore enjoyod the repu
tation of being one of the finest establishments
of its kind in the Southern country.
Sparing no expense to render his guest 8
comfortable, and to invite repeated visits, he
nrely deserves a liberal support from the pub-

We loam from a dispatch received in this oity
yesterday, that the Savannah river is now fifteen
feet high at the Augusta Bridge, and rising ra
pidly. This gratifying intelligence will cause a

In onrahip news columns yesterday, we men-
^ned the arrival of the steamer Chatham, from
hetortown, consigned to O’Fallon k Co. This
* a mistake, as we have been informed by the
parties haring her in charge.
Teli Chatham waa sunk at Doctortown as
noticed by us some time since. She has been
recently raised by Capt. Kennard, assisted by
Leut. McAdam, and brought to this port on ac-
wunt of the underwriters. The Chatham was
badly damaged, having several large holes in her
bottom, one wheel entirely gone, nnd half of the
paddles and arms of the other. She is now on
Ibewaya at shipyard, uudergoing repairs.
