Thin loathsome disease finds many vic
tims in our midst, which, for the most
part, are composed of Freedmon, whose
filthy habits and general associations tend
rather to invite, generate, and propagate
it, than otherwise.
We have before noticed the fact, that
some afflicted with the disease, have, with
a verv culpable disregard for the welfare
of others, presented themselves on the
street, sitting on the corners, and even
intruding themselves upon the door-way
of some of our citizens. This is wrong
aud the interest of the people demand
that a stop be put to such proceedings.
The disease has found its way to the
country also. We were informed that
recently a negro, blooming with the hor
rid malady, deliberately attempted to
enter the house of a gentleman, living a
few miles from the city; but upon being
threatened with death, speedily lieu
away, and was shot, by some unknown
persons in tho woods, whilst en route to
Augusta.
