Tub ladies of St. Philip’s Episcopal 'Church
sre to give an entertainment on Tuesday evening,
it the weather is favorable, for the benefit oftlieir
Church. We desire to lipspcak for this most
worthy enterprise the hearty support of our citi
zens. It is known to all that this little church
has been thoroughly dismantled, and that much
labor and expense will lie necessary to. restore it
to use. The congregation is smnil and their
treasury is empty. A few ladies find gentlemen
—having alone the good of the church at heart—
sre preparing an entertainment of Tableaux
and a Concert, that will prove acceptable to an
audience however exacting or critical. We liave
Iteen favored with a glimpse at the programme
and pronounce It admirable in every particular.
It combines rare humor with good music, both
vocal and instrumental, together with recitations
sad charades. The recitations will embrace lit
erary morctaux, familiar to all, and admired the
world over. Of the latter, “the Raven" will he
a prominent feature. Some of the best amateur
musical ability of the city will assist in the per
formance, aud wo feel no hesitancy in saying it
will prove a success. Aside from the worthy ob
ject to which all will contribute who attend, wc
are assured they will be amply compensated for
the small expenditure. Wc hope to see a large
aad appreciative audience.

Tui Richmond Times says societies for tho
encouragement of Immigration are being rapidly
established in all the Southern States. The suc
cess of these enterprises Is so indispensable to all
the industrial pursuits that, when under the aus
pices of gentlemen of distinction, respectability
end integrity, they will merit the attention of the
press. We do not, however, deem the rapid
multiplication of those societies half as Impor
tant as that there shall be a great central society
la each State, with ample capital, able agents and
facilities for procuring imralgrantsand transport-
log them directly ftom Europe to. tho Southern
States. Societies thus organized have peopled
