has removed the "Jenny" referred to, it will be
no breach of good manners lo say that site was
Jane Welsh Carlyle, the celebrated author. The
occasion on which this celebraled kiss was given
was when Leigh Hunt brought her the intelli
gence that tbo British Government had given
a life pension to her husband. Mrs. Carlyle at
once jumped up and kissed the venerable bearer
of the good news.
