The Flood at Chattanooga.
We copy from the Chattanooga Union, of the
iitli, some tuldiiional particulars of the damages
by the recent flood at that city and vicinity:
DAMAGES.
These cannot !>c estimated at present. The
losses ol our merchants and business men, who
have l>een compelled to move their goods or
hare lost a part by water, will toot up to quite a
formidable sum. The losses that will l>e felt the
most, however, are those ol the farmers and land
owner* throughout the Valiev of the Tennessee.
Hay, corn, grain, live stock,’fences, everything
moveable, have been swept away by the flood,
and tire abundant crops which were expected,
will hardly, wo fear, prove equal to those of last
year. :
Among the eitizcns ofTfllal
suffered bv the flood, wc mention tTie names ol
Kichard & llundman; Lewis, Spilzcr & Co.:
Alltiaugh A Randell; Gillespie, Watkins A Co;;
M. Brail & Co.; L. Murrin, and A. 1). Taylor.
_ Btsimnrd's livery stable, corner ol Market and
Eighth streets, was overflowed yesterday nlter-
uoon. W. Crulchfleld & Co. lost a small quan
tity of salt, that was stored in a warehouse near
the river, hut had the greater part of it removed
in time.
Mr. ,Tno. L. Divine has lost a considerable
amount from ids farm upon the north side of the
river. The farm of Tomlinson Fort, Esq., upon
Chiekamanga creek, is submerged, and his loss
will be quite extensive.
The Vulcan and Southwestern Iron Works
arc submerged, and, of course, have sustained a
considerable amount ol damage to the ma
chinery.
Linnuis A Bennett, A. G. Sharp, C. E. Lewis,
anti others, had buildings on the river bank, car
ried away by the waters.
The farm of John D. Blackford is out ol sight.

Corn fob the Borm—The following is an
cxlmct from a dispatch dated Fortress Monroe,
the 12th inst:
Unnsimlly large amounts of grain, and espe
cially corn, have lately been made front Norfolk
to Savannah, Charleston, and other Southern
ports., The aggregata amount has already been
enormous, anil the shipments still continue in as
large quantities. The large fleet of vessels,
corn*loaded, which has sailed from here, after
being detained in Hampton Roads ou account ol
the weather, will, it is thought, occasion a fall in
the market on their arrival, but the merchants
at Norfolk are daily chartering vessels and load
ing them with all dispatch. Theso shipments
have been made principally ou speculation, and
the great difference, in price in corn North aad
South, has afforded a wide margin tor profits.
The schooners Trnnrtvf and 1 VUlinm I'. Stn-
few days ago from Norfolk for
Charleston ; BCvernI~TrriHW-TrrT^4uaJiiuv and the
schooner Cnmlint Kienyrt, for Beaufort} am
schoouer Abigail Haiti/, lor Savannah, were
takeu up for cargoes ol corn. The sail destitu
tion among the poorer classes in South Carolina
and other Southern States, is the cause ol the
sudden shipments of graiu, and there seems to
be no doubt that the market there will soon be
glutted, and a great reduction in price occur.
The United States supply steamer ifemphit,
which sailed for Charleston yesterday morning,
had on board over three hundred bushels of
corn and other provisions for the destitute peo
ple of South Carolina.
