A. CrRtooR Cass.—The Ch'ichRo huttand
who went away on business January Si, anti
camo home February 1#, to find that hta wife
had got a divorce (him him meantime, and mar
ried another man, was only a sample caso.
The only witness against him, the charge being
cruelty, was the new husband. As some atone
ment, this is the third case noticed within a
week whero courts have set aside their decree
of divorco after one ot the parties had married
again. There is a fourth case, which equally
illustrates the looseness of our marriage laws
where a man, as a mere practical joke, obtained
the legal separation of a newly married couple,
by acting as attorney for the gentleman, whom
he made llie plaintiff in his absence on the wed
ding tour. On his return lie found the decree
on his table, and learned that the latter part of
hta honey moon he had been illegally cohabit
ing with hta former wife, and wns obliged to
take out a new license and get jnarrUd again.
U»
Lord Brougham once said in Parliament, not
hall the people knew whether or not they were
legally married.
Oh Satithday last, some of tho ladies of the
Union Mission Association visited a family in
whose house they found a little boy standing up
iu a beer keg. They asked how ho came there,
sad were told that ha had nothing to wear and
did not want to lie In bed all tlie time. Ho was
therefore put In tho keg so that he could sec what
was going on around him.
