Colored Kdticatlpnal Convention nt
Macon,
The Macon papers of yesterday come to us
with lengthy Accounts ot the assembling of this
body. The Journal <£ Meltemjer says that the
most interesting part—the statements of dele
gates as to educational matters in the counties
represented—is yet to come, to-morrow. The
colored portion of this Convention is a line look
ing hotly of men, and the delegates generally
seem to be earnestly endeavoring to further the
progress of education and morality among their
race—in which all good Southern people wish
them success.”
The same paper says: “ We noticed the portly
form of Win. Murklmm (white), of Atlanta, in
a front scat at the colored convention—thougl
for some reason his name was not enrolled by
the Secretaries.”
In the list of delegates published in the Ma
con papers, wc see that our county is represented
as follows:
Fulton.—Austin Itcill', Willis Isive, Andrew
Jackson, E. A. Ware.
A (fray at Cnmpbclltou.

William J. Camp am! James Gorman, both ol
whom, It appears, had indulged freely hrthc use

litical matters Vetwoou those two gcntlpmcn, tho
subject of loyal league? was introduced by Mr.
Camp, who was bitter in their denunciation.—
This gave oflouso to Mr. Gorman, and caused
him nt a subsequent hoilr to assault Mr. Camp
with a stick at tho post office, wlion tho latter
drew a pistol for purposes of self defense. At
this juncture, odd with a view to prevent vio

wounded. Meantime, Mr. James Gorman had
armed himself with a shot gun, and was in search
of Mr. Camp, who had entered a physician’s of
fice, near at hand, and dosed the door. While
demanding admission at the door, Mr. Gorntan
was shot from the inside by Mr. Camp, the ball
taking affect in the leg, and producing a wound
that will necessitate amputation. These are
alltint the particulars, so lar as they have been
furnished us by one of onr citizens, who learned
them from a gentleman who was in Oampbell-

Camp was not apprehended by the officers ol

10 o’clock, a. nt.; by Pttov. Eben Hili.yeu.
'I'lie nflnirs of the college, wc are gratified to
learn, arc in a prosperous condition, and the
professorships being all filled by gentlemen of
acknowledged ability, the course of lectures now
nt hand promise to bo in full keeping with, if
not superior to, those of previous years. The
college building has undergone great improve
ment since the hist session, anil nothing has been
omitted on the part of the Faculty and Trustees
to place within reach of the students in attend
ance nil the scholarly and scientific advantages
that arc offered by any similar institution in the
South. We are gratified to learn that hopes are
entertained that the attendance of students will

certainly a fixed fact, is a source of congratula
tion to all who are interested in the prosperity of
Atlanta, a prompt support ol it will he zealously
yielded by every good citizen. Students will
find entertainment in private families on reason

Uarefaccd Counterfeit.
The Chattanooga Union says: ‘.‘One ol our
merchants was yesterday victimized by one ol
the most boldfaced counterfeit notes we have
ever seen. Some enterprising genius with more
wit than honesty, had taken a new one dollar
Treasury note, out nut an imitation of the figures
ol a new ten, and pasted it neatly over the figure
one, pasted in the words “Ten dollars" over the
one dollar, smeared with green into the marginal
engraving so that the letters “one”'should not be
visible, and passed it off for ten. In the hurry
of business the deception was not noticed, but a
single close inspection of the note revealed its
worthlessness. It will he well for people to
rutinizc their money closely, as there are pro
fit- more of these altered notes in circulation.”

Vote at (lie Fair.
We give below the result of the bailotings nt
flie Ladies’ Fair. The tiret honor, that having
reference to a name for the new steamer of Fire
Company, No. 1, was obtained by Mias Emma
Latimer ; and lest there should lie some misap
prehension in relation to it, we. will Btate that it
was understood, not that the Bteamcr should liear
the name of the lady to whom the largest mim-
:bcr of votes should be given, hut Hint the privi
lege of tcUcting an appropriate name should lie
accorded to that fortunate lady. This, we arc
:assured, Mias Latimer will do, and being u lady
.of excellent taste, her seleclion will be one
such beauty os to meet the hearty approval of
.the gallant gentlemen of that company. The
vole as counted irom tEe ballot box stands thus

The second honor, that of having a name en
graved upon the new alarm bell, was most
worthily lx-stowed upon one of Atlanta’s fairest
daughters, Miss Augusta Hill, than whom no
lady in the city cun wear thn unsolicited honor
more gracefully.
The nldcrmauic honor tails upon Maj. W. B.
Cox, who far outstripped his competitors for the
gold-headed cane. The vole stood as follows

The cane is of exquisite beauty and finish, be
ing surmounted by a massive gold bead, and
will be valued by the fortunate recipient more
dor the high mark of esteem it conveys limn for
■its intrinsic worth. It is a compliment from bis
fellow-citizens, his lady friends having' also vo
ted, of which Major Cox has just cause to feel
proud.
The Bose Ball Bat was secured by the Atlanta
Club, the vole being its follows i

The baf is elegantly wrought in black walnut,
the ends mounted by ivory, anil the whole taste
fully ornamented. Tho hoya will cherish it as
trophy for their hall.
The several ballot 1 Mixes having received 006
votes, at 26 cents per role, yielded to the Fi
the snug little sum of $226 50, the larger part
which is elenr money. Tills feature, therefore
may bo set down ns n “success."

OVER A MILLION DOLLARS SAVED )
Gentlemen“ i had a negro man worth $1,200 who

“ I take pleasure in recommending the Mexican Mus

“The sprain of my daughter’s ankle, occasioned while
skating last winter, was entirely cured in one week, after
she commenced using your Mexican Mustang Liniment.
Gloucester, Mass., Aug. 1,1865. ED. SEELY.
It is an admitted fact that the Mexican Mnstang Lini
ment performs more cures in shorter time, on man and
beast, than any article ever discovered. Families, livery

re it certainly is. All genuine is wrapped in steel
