Ladles' meeting.
A meeting of ladies will take place this morn
ing,'at 9 o’clock, in the 6th store of tho Granite
Block, in Broad street, for the purpose of arrang
ing preliminaries necessary to the decoration of
Confederate soldiers’ graves to-morrow.
Frost and Ice,
The late cold “snap" has, it is feared, proved
injurious to the wheat crop. We are Informed
that ice was found at Stone Mountain early on
Wednesday morning'last, while conductors on
the Georgia Railroad report considerable flrost on
the bottom lands adjacent to that line of railway.
The temperature in this- city on Tuesday and
Wednesday last had a close resemblance to that
of January. Overcoats and shawls were much
in demand, while several ladles appeared on tho
streets in their winter furs. There wa3 certainly
a “winter lingering in tho lap of spring” ap
pearance about things generally. Tho tempera
ture had “ toned down ” as we went to press
last night.
Address of the Hon. Henry Wilson To-
Day at the City Hall.
As tho above gentleman will reach tho city
this morning at 7 o’clock, wo ro-publish the ac
tion (or an extract) of the informal meeting of
citizens on Tuesday afternoon last:
" On motion of Dr. Angler, a committee ot
thirty-six were appointed to roceive and tender
the hospitalities of tho city to Hon. Henry Wil
son, Senator in Congress, who will arrive at 7
o’clock, a. nt., Thursday."
Of that committee of thirty-six gentlemen,
the following wero chosen ns a Committee of
Arrangements, to pcrlecttbe details for Mr. Wil
son’s address: Richard Peters, H. P. Farrow,
J. L. Dunning, William Markham, N.L. Angier,
John Rice, James Atkins anil John W. Duncan
The address will tnke place at 11 o’clock, at
the City Hall, to which all classes of persons are
invited to attend
General J. B. Itlagruder,
This accomplished gentleman and soldier has
made St. Louis his home, and like many of his
brother cx-Coufederato officers, resorts to mor-
cautilo pursuits for a livelihood. Tho St. Louis
Timet says of him: “He has chosen the busi
ness of importer of wines, liquors and cigars, in
which commodities he Intends to deal so exten
sively as to bo able to supply any demand ot tho
market, looking especially to the South for pa
tronage. He is prepared to receive orders from
any Southern city, including St. Louis, (or any
description of foreign wines and liquors and ci
gars, and to furnish such articles in bond to
dealers at any point at which a custom house is
located.”
As to the General’s “business aptitudes” wo
know nothing—
“ Lot time and chknco detormlno"—
but as a eannaitieur of tho articles ho proposes
to deal in, wo will back him against Prince Met-
ternich, the French Emperor, Mr. Saulshury, or
“ any other man."
Sensible.
Gentlemen of the agricultural persuasion In
tills locality would do well to heed tho advice
contained in a letter to the Memphis Avalanche,
ol which tho following is an extract. Tho letter
dates from Louisiana: “I find that a largo
number of persons who contemplated planting
cotton havo abandoned tho intention, and will
plant com instead. The wisdom ol the latter
course must be evident to every ono who gives
tho mattor ordinary calculation. The lowest
figures at which cotton can bo raised tills year,
allowing two-thirds of a balo to the acre, will bo
twenty-live cents a pound. Labor is rnoro un
certain than it ever was hitherto. Tho cotton
crop ol India and Egypt will be nt least fivo
million bales. Steam plows and all manner oi
labor-Baving appliances are being used in those
countries to supply tho necessities of planters,
anil the result will be a large crop ol cotton
which will bo Bold profitably at eight cents, so
we cannot competo with thorn. English opera
tors here have made these calculations, and will
will not advanco on prospective crops boro
hence mnny planters have prudently arranged
to let cotton alone. He who raises provisions
that will free us from tho domination of the
grain producers of the North, will prove himself
a good and wiso man."
Holbrook’s Hats.
The Hat establishment of this gentleman con
linues to grow in popularity, and Justly so, for
Holbrook has certainly reduced the business oi
Halt to a science. His connection witli a large
manufacturing house in Now York enables him
to furnish not only the latest styles hut Hats
made out of the very best material. Tho coun
try trade will find it to their advantage to call
upon Holbrook. See his notice in our special
column.
Theatrical-Camille.
The sensational French play of Camille will
bo produced this evening by the theatrical com
pony now perlorfning at tho Bell-Johuson Ifall
It was the character in which Matildo Heron
climbed up to lamo.’and ono that has delighted
moro audiences that any of tho latter day dra
mas. When truthfully rendered it is welt worth
seeing.
The performance oi Little Barefoot last night
was of a very creditable character. Alice Vane
and Mr. Templeton, In the principal characters,
gave the utmost satisfaction to the audience, aud
upon a better acquaintance with our theater
goers we predict for them great popularity.
Mias Vane’s rather clever rendering of 11 Baccio
was loudly applauded and encored. Her vocal
powers are excellent. There is evidently much
talent In the company, and it gives us pleasure
to commend to the favorable consideration
thjs community the New Orleans favorites.
The alter-plece we did not see, but learn that
Miss Partington fully maintains the high reputa
tion she enjoys elsewhere.
Bee the notice of Langston, Crane & Hammock
who are constantly in receipt of new goods in
the line ol groceries and provisions.
A vine house will be sold by “ Uncle Billy
HU1” this morning, in front of Mr. Bogguss’
suction house.

It is a most delightful Hair Dressing,
It eradicates scurf aud dandruff.
It keeps tho head cool and clean.
It makes the hair rich, soft and glossy.
It prevents hair turning gray and falling off.
It restores hair upon prematurely bald heads.
This is just what Lyon’s Katharlon will do. It is pret

load, and yet its almost incredible demand is daily in
creasing, until there is hardly a country store that does
not keep It, or a family that docs not nso It.
